My big toe on my right foot is broken – in 2 places. Groan. That is my machine-driving foot. Yes, I can use my left foot – but it’s not as good as my right foot. However, I have managed to start the “On Ringo Lake” mystery! When there is a will, there is a way! Here is 10 of each of the first 3 clues done. Many many more to do! They just won’t all get done in a day!
If you want to join in the fun – there is a link to the mystery in the right side-bar. If you want to see what others are doing – there is a linky part on Bonnie’s blog. Click HERE.

Amazing that you can do that with a broken toe! I am so used to my right foot being in control, not sure I could switch.

It’s amazing what you can do – when you HAVE to sew! As well, I found that if I change my foot position, I’m actually pressing with the ball of my foot and not the toes. It’s working – for short periods of time!

Hi Gail. What’s with these breaks! Heather fell awhile ago and broke bones in her right hand…..no sewing for several weeks. I’ve started on Ringo Lake, but very slow…..Half size…clue 1 one. Hate flying geese but will do some. Also don’t love clue 3, but I’ll trudge slowly along. Have a very Merry Christmas and hope the toe gets better quickly!

Hi Dianne, Glad to hear you’re also doing “On Ringo Lake” … I am doing the flying geese with the “no waste” method – doing 4 at a time. http://www.patchpieces.com/files/flyinggeese.pdf My big squares are 4 1/4″ and the little ones are 2 3/8″ They pretty much come out close to perfect (usually). Merry Christmas to you! We should get together in the New Year!

Hi Gail,
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about your toe. Two breaks, no less. If you’re going to do it, do it up right. I hope it heals quickly. Do you have the start/stop button on your sewing machine? I haven’t even plugged in my foot pedal – I just use the button. Great job on the BH mystery quilt – all your pieces look great so far. ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne, I do have the stop/start button on one of my machines … and yesterday, I discovered that the huge pedal works great – my whole foot can work it and not just the top of my foot. 🙂 And then, after sewing happily … I realized my machine needs to go see the doctor … it’s skipping stitches AGAIN. GROAN!

Gail!! Oh no – how annoying! After you found a wonderful solution. Maybe you need to take it as a sign . . . and heal yourself and get your machine fixed. A small short break from sewing and quilting? {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne, … I have sew much to do … it’s frustrating to be forced into taking a break!

I have bursitis in both hips, arthritis in my lower back and carpal tunnel in both wrists. Plus I get muscle spasms, sometimes in my back, which can be really painful. And just seeing this in print makes me feel even older. Plus, I have broken one of my toes before and I know it can be very painful. Hope you feel better soon and get all caught up.

You can do it! I have arthritis/bursitis in my right hip and started machine-driving with my left foot several months ago. It feels natural now. Heal quickly.
