An unexpected finish!

I was asked to learn to use the Double Mitre Ruler.  I struggled with the directions.  It said, “fabric right side together.”  So I assumed that you used both fabrics together.  Well, you know what they say about assumptions. I was totally wrong. So, I went to You-tube … there is a link HERE that demonstrates it nicely.  The outside makes a frame and you slip the centre part into the frame.  Once I understood that, it was easy peasy!

The 2 placemats and the hexagon hot-pad came together nicely and the ruler made the corners perfect!  And since I’m NOT a perfectionist … this was a delight to do.  I did quilting lines ¼” apart on the edges.  I believe the quilting took more time than cutting the fabric and making the corners.   These are not UFOs … but they did use up a couple of yards of my stash!  (edited: I originally posted that the hot pad was an octagon … it’s a hexagon … but the ruler will also do the mitres for an octagon as well.)

    • Hi Karen, I honestly don’t know. I know that “Langley Vacuum & Sewing” (near Vancouver, Canada) has a few. I don’t know where she gets her supply from. You could try emailing them at “Langley Vacuum at Telus dot net” (with no spaces and appropriate symbols for at and dot)

  2. Pretty colors. They caught my eye in the Sew Fresh link. I haven’t seen that tool before, very interesting. How did we ever manage without the internet? Very slowly. Lovely work.

    • Thank you, Jane! They are pretty colours and were just hanging about in my stash … How did we ever manage with out the Internet? You’re right … very slowly … but I also was able to finish what I started because I wasn’t bombarded with a zillion ideas each and every day! But, I do love it! Happy Quilting! 🙂

  4. Hi Gail,
Nice finishes for today! I love the fabrics you chose, and that ruler looks VERY confusing. Your quilting really puts the perfect finishing touch on all of the pieces. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Thanks, Roseanne. Actually, the ruler isn’t confusing … the directions tell you exactly what to do. And those fabrics … they were languishing in my stash & as I was searching for “something” to use, they called out to me “Use me” … sew, I did! Happy Quilting my blogging friend! 🙂
