Scrappy Workshop

Yesterday, I taught a guild workshop “Scrappy Irish Chain.”  Based on this quilt:

IMG_1279Participants had the choice of using 2″ squares or 2 ½” squares.  Some struggled a bit to just use everything, but they did well in the end!  I kept joking that one day, I’d like to Image result for happy face clip art freefind fabric with a kitchen sink on it … and then I could say that my scrappy quilts included everything, including the kitchen sink!

Everyone got at least 2 blocks made … some had several made by the time we left.  I hope they all send me pictures of their completed quilts!  (I included that as a Step in the directions!)

One used a dark blue for the background … I love it!  Perhaps one day in the future!IMG_1599

I took a big bin of fabric that contained mostly donations to me.  I told them that I’d be very happy if the bin was empty at the end of the day.  About an hour before we were done, they realized that I was serious.  Then quite a few scraps disappeared … but there was still LOTS that I brought home!

  1. What a fabulous looking scrappy quilt. I like all the combinations people in class were making. This is a great leader-ender quilt, too. Thanks for sharing such fun! You’re doing well for the year on stash busting, too, so congratulations!

    • Hi Cynthia,
I too, love teaching workshops! It’s a lot of fun and I enjoy seeing participants “get it” and understand what they are doing!
      Happy Quilting,

  3. Sorry I couldn’t complete the class – I cut a lot of squares last night and will start putting the blocks together – looking forward to seeing the results – thanks again 😊

    • Thanks Kathleen!
As for the UFOs … now that I taught a class and started 2 more quilts, I debating whether to finish them, or put them in a box in case I teach the same class again.

Yes, it was fun to share the scraps … fun to see fabric that was taken from the bin inserted into some of the blocks! A win-win … participants got more scraps, I decreased my scraps!

      Happy Quilting!
