A first quilt!

IMG_3339Quilting Tangent wrote to me and told me that she had used the same block as my “Stars on Ice Quilt” (see more HERE. )

An amazing Quilter!

When I was astounded that was a block she used for her FIRST quilt – she sent me pictures and this is what she said, “Yes, my first quilt was hand pieced, queen size and reversible.  I got a machine, figured out how to use it and did the quilting with a vine stitch the machine had.  Took forever!  Now I’m trying to learn to piece on the machine, a lot different then hand sewing..”

Oh my!  I am totally amazed!  This is absolutely astounding!  Hand pieced!!! Reversible!!!  Quilted with a machine. WOW oh WOW!

When I asked for permission to share on my blog (she granted it!) and said, ” I have no guild, self taught with the help of TV and the internet.”

I can’t wait to see what talented Quilting Tangent does in the future!   I’m sure she’d like to hear your comments … please comment below and I’ll make sure she gets them!

I’m piecing something secret and there’s something secret being quilted.  You will see them all in good time!

Stash Report

Since the fabric for the top of “Stars on Ice” was given to me by Island Batik, I’m not counting it as fabric “used” this year.  However, the flannel back was from my stash. So, I’m adding it in.

I was working at the Creativ Festival in Abbotsford for the past 2 weeks.  There was fabric.  Nice fabric.  Pretty fabric.  Really NICE fabric.  And I didn’t buy ANY of it!!!  WhooHoo!!!  Aren’t you proud of me??

* Fabric Used this week: 2.5 yards back of “Stars on Ice”
* Fabric Used this year: 53.9 yards
* Fabric Bought this Week:   0 yards
* Fabric Added this Year: 44.55 yards
* Net Fabric Used for 2019: 9.4 yards
* Husband’s purchases 6.5 yards

PHD in 2019: Quilting UFOs and Finishing New Projects

I finished my March Island Batik project (“Stars on Ice.”)

You may see that I added 3 BBQG quilts to my UFOs … that’s because I’ve pulled them out.  I sewed on one to demonstrate webbing, another to was laid out for the demonstration and the 3rd is being used as a “leader and ender.”  I added them to my list … if I get them done – great and that will be 3 quick UFO finishes.  But if I don’t get them done, that will be OK … I’ve lots of bigger quilts to work on!

  2. Wow! That is impressive! I hand quilted my first quilt, twin bed sized. NEVER AGAIN. I did not enjoy that process. But it wasn’t enough to kill the quilting bug. Thanks for sharing Quilting Tangent’s projects!

    • Hi Beth,
      Yes, indeed!
Quilting Tangent is on a roll and I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of her future quilts!

And I wasn’t her inspiration … she had made the quilt before I knew her … she just happened to make a similar block to the tri-recs block …
I’m positive that all of the quilting bloggers have helped her on her way!

      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  4. Hi Gail! WOWEE – Quilting Tangent did an amazing job. Not just amazing – stupendous!! I can’t even imagine making a queen size reversible quilt, yet alone hand piecing it. AND on top of that, quilting it on her machine as her first quilt. I just adore both sides but especially the second side. It just looks like color washes across the top in waves and then rolls through to start over again. Really, really nice job. I can’t wait to see what she tries next. The world is her oyster – I can only imagine how far she’ll go. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Quilting Tangent has done some beautiful work. I hope she continues to quilt and learn; I’m primarily self-taught as well. It’s amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it. I’m so excited for her!
