Christmas RAPPING

What’s this?  Christmas in May?  Well, yes and no.  The blog hop from Christmas RAPPING is in progress … and just because the book is titled “Christmas,” it doesn’t mean that you have to make the projects in Christmas colours.  I was tired of winter and wanted to do a quilt in spring/ summer colours! Island Batik generously sent me the fabric I requested.  I also used Hobbs 80/20 batting and Aurifil thread #5008 (blue) for the quilting.

If you know me, I know you’re surprised and saying “look at all those appliquéd stars.”  Well … read on … (and the centre block is paper pieced, not appliquéd!fullsizeoutput_a78

The Book

The Authors / Designers

Christmas RAPPing was written by 2 very talented ladies! Margaret Brewster Willingham of Eye of the Beholder Quilt Designs. And Nan Baker from Purrfect Spots Designs.  Be sure and visit each of their blogs to see there other designs.

More about the Process

Below is a picture of some of the Reverse Applique blocks.  I had cut one out by hand, using sharp scissors, but it still looked rough.  However, I recently purchased the Artistic Edge cutter and knew it would do a much better job!  A friend came over and helped me set it up.  Thank you Stephe!  I was able to cut these out very quickly!  And the cuts are perfect. I wanted to do the quilting on my domestic machine, but next time, I will set it up to quilt on my embroidery machine. The reverse applique was easy peasy!

    • Hi Emily,
Thanks, I, too, really like the colours!
I know … you know me pretty well as I usually call it Cr-Applique! But I can handle reverse appliqué! Especially with my Artistic Edge cutter!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  2. Such beautiful colors and I love the tulips. My yellow tulips come up every year and if I’m lucky to see them they are beautiful. However, they don’t last long because the deer love them.

  4. Hi Gail! I just love the name of this book and blog hop – so very clever. The first thing I said when I say your photo was LOOK at that quilting!! Your swirls look so nice and just perfect for that area. You’re really getting more comfortable doing FMQ now, aren’t you? It really shows. Then I admired your paper piecing center – all of the stars look fab. But then the reveal of the reverse applique – well that is just SO slick. I’m going to pick up this book as it sure has some fun projects in it. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Hi Roseanne,
I agree, the name is awesome!
Thank you for the FMQ complement! I am getting more comfortable with it and I’m sewing with contrasting colours … not hugely contrasting, but in this case it was a very light blue and it showed up on the whiteish background and also on the darker coloured fabrics … a perfect mix!
I’m glad you’re inspired to get the book! It is truely pretty fantastic!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂
