TGIFF
Thank Goodness Its Finished Friday … is a linky party. If you have a finish this week, feel free to join in the fun and share what you’ve been working on. (Scroll down for the linky party)
My Different Finish!
I’ve been thinking that I need to sew up some of my garment fabric. Yes, I do have some. There was a time, YEARS ago that I used to make all my own clothes – including blue jeans. But, other than some pjs, I haven’t sewn any clothes. I have a beautiful piece of Island Batik rayon that I received in my first box. BUT … I didn’t want to risk cutting it up and sewing a garment if the pattern wasn’t going to fit.
I dug out my patterns and found a t-shirt type top that I had made years ago – like 20 years ago. (And 20 pounds ago!). I measured the pieces against a top that currently fits and thought I’d try it. I had some blue rayon fabric that I got – who knows when or where … and started cutting.
I found my box of interfacing and ironed it on … I had the perfect matching Aurifil thread … my serger was ready to go … and viola! My top was finished.
My husband took the picture and I couldn’t help laughing because he was saying “Gail-le-locks and the 3 bears” …
I will be sewing up my gorgeous Island Batik fabric in the near future!
The bears came from Mystic Woods Chainsaw Sculptures in Florence, Oregon. The link will take you to the FaceBook page.

Very pretty! And very smart to try with another fabric before cutting into the good stuff. I used to make a lot of my clothes, including formals when I was in college. The only clothing I’ve made recently has been the odd Halloween costume for the Scientist in Training.

WOW – formals!!! The closest I got to that was a sheath that I made for my daughter … nice & simple!

Your shirt looks wonderful! I have some rayon I need to use soon too. Guess I need to be brave! Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.

Hi Jennifer … I assume that you have IB rayon??? Yup, being brave is the name of the game … but I’m a bit of a chicken – so that’s why I used different fabric first!
Happy Quilting! 🙂

Cute top! The fabric is perfect for that pattern. It’s getting hard to find flattering tops that are made well in stores. It’s great that you can make your own.

Thanks, Kathleen. It took me awhile since I haven’t done any garment sewing in ages … but probably less time than if I went shopping and trying on a zillion tops! 🙂

Gail, it looks great. I have never been much of a garment maker, so I am still wrestling with the idea of making something for my mom with the Island Batik Rayon.

Thanks, Gene! It’s hard to know about fitting patterns … some of them fit big … some small. If you make something for your mom, take one of her garments and make sure the pattern is about the same size. Garments are sewn with a 5/8″ seam – sew different than quilts! Good luck with it! 🙂

Hi Gail! What a fabulous top, and that fabric is gorgeous and just perfect for that application. I used to sew clothes as well – eons ago. And, I’ve made a few baby Halloween costumes in a pinch – like when I’m asked. I do have a finish post tomorrow! My day bag post is a happening so I’ll be back to add it. Woot woot – congrats for hosting TGIFF. ~smile~ Roseanne
