The Retreat is Over

Yes, the retreat is over.  It is done for another year!  It was a wonderful time of sharing, quilting, laughing and laughing!

We played games!  Instead of strip poker (See HERE) we used the LRC die and played with loonies (Canadian $1 coins).  It was fun to the end.   Then there was a scavenger hunt … looking for all sorts of things sewing and non-sewing related.  One thing that we needed was a selfie of the team, taken in a car.  Neither my partner or I had our own cars at the retreat. Much to the surprize of the owner, we hopped into the back of another car as she and her partner were getting out!  We have a gift exchange at the retreat and played a game with each of us ending up with a gift we didn’t make.

One of my secret projects in the recent weeks was a snappy bag and a roll of toilet paper.

Both of these were embroidered on my embroidery machine.  The toilet paper pattern is a free pattern from Kreative Kiwi: Christmas Blocks 2.  Toilet paper has become smaller in recent years, so I needed to decrease the size to 95%.   Kreative Kiwi also has a tutorial on how to embroider on toilet paper.  If you use one of the patterns with eyes (santa, snowman, etc.) ensure that you add extra stabilizer or your machine will eat the toilet paper with the dense stitching of the eyes!  (Don’t ask me how I know!)

Here is a slideshow of many of the projects that were worked on during the retreat.  Also included are nature pictures (thank you Judy B!) that were taken during a walk on the grounds.   You will also see 2 slides with all of the gifts exchanged by the group.  There were lots of sewing projects, but also jams and relish that others had made!  So fun!

I don’t have pictures of my finishes because I didn’t take any!  😦 …  when I get around to unpacking, I’ll take pictures!  Promise!

  1. Looks like you had the retreat in someone’s home? I love retreats! I would love some time to have enough money to attend an out of town one.
We have 3 here I attend–2 each year with the former quilt shop owner and 1 with my guild.

    • Hi Marsha,
This retreat was at Edenvale Retreat & conference Centre. https://edenvale.ca It’s in Abbotsford BC. A friend & I rent the centre and invite 16 quilting friends to join us. It’s a pretty sweet place for a retreat! And there is no fear of not having enough people … we have a waiting list. Another place that a group of us go to for a retreat is “Over the Rainbow Lodge” on Camano Island, Washington. https://www.overrainbow.com/retreat-center.htm Over the Rainbow is a bit different – we have to do the cooking – but we share the meals and it makes it easy for all of us.
Both retreats are lots of fun! I also try to attend at least one of the guild retreats each year. I, too, LOVE retreats!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

    • You’re welcome Andree! The toilet paper was embroidered, not quilted …. but I don’t see why you couldn’t quilt it … just so long as you had stabilizer behind it!
Thanks for hosting Free Motion Mavericks!

    • Hi Alycia,
Why not toilet paper? One person at the retreat asked me if I embroidered the whole roll! Nope – just one square. Pinterest and youtube are full of toilet paper ideas!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

    • Glad you enjoyed them. When Judy shared them with me, I just knew I needed to include them in the slideshow!
Makes you wonder if Kaffe was inspired by a toadstool – it wouldn’t surprise me!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂
