A Quilt I haven’t shown before

img_4872.jpg

I don’t have a finish for Friday, but I thought I’d show you this quilt that I made for a sweet, sweet young lady, “V.”  I made it for her when she was born.  I believe she’s 5 now! Her parents told me that they put the quilt away for when she was bigger than a newborn.  “V” now has the quilt.

“V’s” mother is a good friend of my daughter.  My daughter designed the quilt from a few options I gave her. She picked out the fabric and I did the sewing.  Of course, it had to have a few personal touches!  My daughter took a picture of the foxes in the one print, enlarged the fox and and MADE me appliqué the fox onto the quilt.  You’ve heard me say before that I highly dislike appliqué!  If I had to do it over again, I’d use my embroidery machine and digitizer.

The quilting was in the ditch around the skinny white borders and a simple meander throughout the rest of the quilt.

Want to try a new pattern?

Head over to “For the Love of Geese” for a pretty neat pattern “Tiger Lilies” … and a tutorial on how to make it!  (I’m not going to show you the quilt … you need to visit Denise’s website to see it!)

  1. This is super cute, Gail! My niece is also a V so this immediately made me think of her. The fox is adorable–and I know how much you hate applique! I’m glad it’s being played with now!

  2. It’s a very cute quilt and well worth the applique effort. I’m learning to do applique, but I don’t like it. Piecing is just so much more relaxing.

    • Hi Kate!
I have friends that simply LOVE to applique! I’ve always called it “Cr-Applique” (Crap-lique). But with my embroidery machine, (Janome 500E), that’s my favourite way to applique! However, having said that, I’m currently working on a current project that has applique on it and I’m not using my embroidery machine! Sometimes it’s worth taking the time to applique! 🙂
      Happy Quilting & Applique! 🙂

    • You’re welcome, Denise!
Mine is not as old as yours. I look forward to seeing it!
I wish I had pictures of all the quilts I made before I started taking pictures of them! Especially the ones that were hand quilted! They were all made between 1982 and 1995. I made 1 or 2 queen sized quilts each year.
      Happy Quilting! 🙂
