PHD in 2019! DONE!!!

fullsizeoutput_c18.jpeg

These are the 3 baby quilts that were started this fall.  They were all donated to the guild.  And they were fun to do.  The one in the middle and the one on the right had flannel on both sides.  I learned that it is difficult to FMQ a 2-sided flannel quilt.   When I tackled the pink one, I just did straight lines with my walking foot.  The quilt didn’t stretch as much and it was way easier to do!  The one on the left had quilting cotton on the top with flannel on the back.  It was very easy to free-motion quilt the wavy lines.

Design Wall

Piecing:

Frolic: Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery … Part 4 is done …. waiting for Part 5.  I deviated from Bonnie’s colours … I used a constant grey instead of a mix of light aqua.  If you want to join in the mystery … the links can be found HERE.

And, yes, I’m pretty pleased that I have completed each part before the next one arrives!

52 Blocks in 52 weeks  I haven’t done the latest block, but I did add sashing and cornerstones to the blocks that will be in the quilt.  2 blocks did not make the cut because of the fabrics I used … they screamed at me … so they are being left behind.

I know that I only have 3 spots left and that I have 4 blocks left to do … However, there are a few extra blocks that were 2 colour and I made extras – so some of them may be removed. And, no, the blocks are NOT in the position they will be in the quilt … they are just stuck up on the design wall for now.img_5897.jpg

Quilting:

Nothing, absolutely nothing is being quilted at this time.

  1. Yay! Congrats! I am fairly certain I’m going to make it. I had that one pesky block I made back in February as part of the hand piecing SAL–it’s now a quilt top that has been quilted and just needs binding! It’s all prepped along with one more UFO ready for hand binding in the car–we’re going to Charleston, SC the day after Christmas and I plan to get them both done on that trip. Hooray for finishing your PhD and hopefully I’m right behind!

    Merry Christmas, Gail!

    • Thanks, Roseanne!
I’m not sure how I’m going to start off in 2020 … let me guess though … I’ll probably start working on one of those UFOs! (wink wink!)
Happy Quilting and Merry Christmas Eve to you as well! 🙂

  3. Great job, Gail! Finishes ALWAYS feel good!!! Funny, you changed out BH’s lt aqua for a constant gray. i was thinking similarly obly scrappy grays. I was also toying with enlarging the blocks. Oh such dreams! Merry Christmas!

    • Hi Sue, I changed out the aquas because I only had one and there was not enough (less than a fat quarter). When I make BH patterns, I want to make them totally from my stash … I don’t want to buy fabric, nor do I want fabric from friends (some have kindly offered – but that doesn’t use up MY stash!) Eekes … enlarging the blocks – that’ll take some math! Let me know how you make out with that!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂
      Merry Christmas!
