Winnie the Pooh Sew-a-long

Are you interested in a Winnie the Pooh Sew-a-long?  Want to join me as I make this quilt?  I emailed Lorna (the designer) about hosting a Sew-a-long and she said, “Sounds fine with me Gail! I would love to have you host a quilt along featuring them.”

SEW … I’m thinking of starting on Monday, June 8.  That will give you (and me) 2 weeks to pull fabric or go shopping.  I’m thinking that if we do one character a day or every 2 days … we’ll be finished in just over a week.    I’m not 100% sure, because I haven’t made any of them yet … But I plan to start on June 8.

Lorna emailed me today to say that the pattern has been updated … so, if you downloaded it before, you may want to download it again as there is an update.    You can access the pattern HERE. (scroll down the page).  There are 3 sizes to choose from.  Your choice as to which size you choose.

If you haven’t visited “Sew Fresh Quilts,” you are in for a pleasant surprise of LOTS of cute, cute quilts!

Finishes

I finished 2 quilts today … Florabunda #2 & #3.  These count as one UFO finish.  I know … with all 3 Florabunda quilts completed, it should count as 3 UFOs … but it’s only May and that leaves me with one more UFO to finish to accomplish my UFO goal for PHD in 2020!

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_3836

Florabunda #2 and #3 were quilted with swirls … lots of swirls … large swirls, medium swirls and small swirls … they were both pretty quick to quilt!  Hobbs 80/20 is the batting and Aurifil #2309 was the thread.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I started this quilt.  Yes, I wanted to use up floral fabric, but … I ended up with 140 blocks … enough to make 2 quilts that are 6 x 8 blocks and one that is 6 x 7 blocks.

Here are all 3 Florabunda on the clothesline …  fullsizeoutput_cd9

Florabunda is a free pattern from Bonnie Hunter and you can access it HERE.

Piecing:

I’m still working on the baby quilt and the big brother quilt.  I changed my mind and the baby quilt is a UFO that needs to be finished.  Big brother quilt is in progress with these fabrics.

Can you guess what this will be?  It’s part of my June Island Batik challenge.  I’m using the “Kismet” fabric collection, designed by Tammy Silvers of Tamarinis.  Doesn’t the black make the colours pop?

With the finish of Florabunda … that leaves 1 UFO to finish for my PHD in 2020.   Somehow, I think I will finish more than 12 UFOs this year!

  1. Being very self-controlled and not opting into Winnie the Pooh, although when I saw the tail for Eeyore it nearly broke me!!! What a cute idea, I hope you have fun, and congrats on being so far along with the PhD already. Thanks for sharing with the Chameleon at Colour & Inspiration Tuesday.

    • Dione,
I’m in awe at your self-control!!! It’s obvious that I don’t have as much as you do! 🙂
I just couldn’t resist the Winnie quilt! I’ve been a WtP fan forever!!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  2. Yes to the Pooh quilt along! I’m not sure I can keep up with every few days but I’ll still play along. Congrats on being so close to your PhD and the year isn’t even half over yet!!

  3. Hi Gail! You are doing so great on your stitching time goal as well as finishing up the UFOs. At this rate, you’ll work through all of yours and have to give up the PHD program next year. I love the start of the baby and big brother quilts. Those fabrics are so pretty! I’m especially drawn to the polka dots. Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Hi Roseanne! You’re a dreamer – if you think that I’ll finish ALL my UFOs this year! I have 28 left! …So, I’m sure the program will continue for at least another year!
I’m happy with the baby quilt & big brother’s …
      Thanks for hosting “TO DO”.
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  4. I’d play along with a Winnie the Pooh QAL, but I doubt I can do a block a day. Every couple of days would allow for unexpected life and work issues that may arise. Well done on the finishes. They look great.

    • Hi Anja,
When I looked at all the pieces that need to be cut for each block … I’m thinking it’ll be a day for cutting – at least, and a day for sewing – at least!
I’ll see what happens once I pull my fabrics!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  5. I’m a maybe on the Pooh QAL. I have committed to another QAL and I’m not sure how soon that begins. I learned last year not to get too many going at once (I’m still catching up!). If I don’t join in, I’ll definitely be cheering you on from here! You know I love that pattern!

    • Hi Wendy!
I know what you mean about having too many things going on at once!
And thank you for cheering us on – even if you don’t make the quilt at the same time!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  6. Wow, THREE Foribundas?! They are all beautiful! Congratulations! The Winnie the Pooh quilt looks darling. Eyore is my favorite. I always wanted to give him a hug, find him a good therapist, and help him see the world differently!!

  7. Wow! Only one left to earn your 2020 PHD! I guess that’s a silver lining. So how many UFOs will you have left (in total) after that?
And what’s your secret for backing? I’ve been accumulating flimsies but can’t finish them because I don’t have backing. Normally I keep a variety of backings on hand but they are already used up. (I’ve order some but my order hasn’t even been processed yet and it’s been 3 weeks!)
I do love that florabunda too. I’ve made a couple jacobs ladder quilts but what I love about yours is the softness of the florals and the transition. Any tips for achieving that effect?
    Cheers cuz!

    • Hi Terry!
At the moment, I have 28 UFOs left …
For backings … I have a lot of fabric where I bought lots and am joining them together … Plus, I have fabric left from when I bought the end of a quilt store … lots of it was bolts … they are getting used … many are not necessary my taste – but they’re for the back and that makes them perfect to finish the quilt.
As for the Florabunda … I used a soft soft yellow with a faint green dot … I think it tied all of the blocks together …
      Happy Quilting, Cuz! 🙂
