Project #2

In our first box for 2020, I received 2 yards of a beautiful batik!  I made this comfy top from an OLD pattern from the ’90s.

Project #3, 4 & 5

I’ve been learning how to digitize various patterns for my embroidery machine.  I’m using Artistic Digitizer by Janome.  It’s a learning curve, but I’m loving it!

Recently, we were shown how to digitize an “In the Hoop Zipper Pouch.”  The top 2 were made from a program developed during the class.  The embroidery on the left was from a free pattern from Embroidery Library called “Delicate Magnolia.”  On the bottom, I attempted to use my largest hoop (for the Janome 500E), make a larger pouch and do the design from scratch.  My programing still needs some work!  I didn’t like how the decorative stitching turned out, so I resorted to sticking the hoop under my sewing machine and doing the decorative stitches there.  I used a variegated Aurifil poly #5844.  The colours went really well with the fabric, but don’t show up that well and in many parts blend in with it. Like I said, I’m learning.

The fabric used in these pouches were all from Island Batik.

Thank you to Island Batik, Aurifil thread and Schmetz Needles for the supplies!

Happy Quilting!

  2. Lovely pouches! And so useful too. Digitizing then means you’ll be able to make so many more for gifts or whatever. Very clever. Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.

  3. Hi Gail, those are wonderful projects! And good luck with digitizing your patterns for my embroidery machine – that sounds like quite the challenge. Learning new things is what keeps us young 🙂 Your top looks comfortable. Thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks! Take care.

  4. I love your pouches, the embroidery you added is a perfect addition. You have my admiration on learning how to create digitized patterns, it sounds like it would be complicated. Good luck. Thank you for linking up last week. Oh, love the shirt too.

  5. You made those cute little zipper pouches completely in your embroidery hoop?! That is so cool! Urban Threads embroidery company has some zipper clutch type evening bags that are similar. I’m really intrigued by this concept; just haven’t had a chance to experiment with it yet. I’m a little intimidated by the idea of stitching out a whole bag like this with a professionally digitized design — can’t imagine trying to digitize this kind of project myself, so kudos to you! I think your efforts look great!

  6. I got that turquoise in a previous box, (it’s so pretty!) and actually set it aside with a dress pattern and zipper, ready to sew…think I’ll make it before the end of June?? The top does look very comfy, and I love those pouches – haven’t used the embroidery attachment on my Bernina for years…so many sewing activities, so little time!

    • Thanks, Katie! I didn’t choose the fabric – it was sent to me in an Island Batik box (I get 2 this year as an ambassador). However, they did choose well! 🙂
