Ah, September and the first TGIFF of the month!

TGIFF is THANK GOODNESS IT”S FINISHED FRIDAY. A day where quilters around the world post their finishes … or their works in progress!

Some of you will be saying “but it’s still early on Thursday.” I know … but just think … in some parts of the world … Friday is almost over!

My finish is this cute quilt … it was in a pile of “to be quilted” and I had even forgotten to put it on my “New Starts in 2020” for my PHD program. That’s OK … it’s done now, even if it didn’t make it to the list!

The quilt is basically the pattern from “5 ways to use ugly fabric” youtube video. I didn’t care for the look when the blocks were finished, so I added sashing and borders. The quilt finishes at 44″ x 59″ and the fabrics were not what I’d call ugly … but it did use up some fat quarters that were hanging around.

I used Hobbs 80/20 for the batting (it’s my FAVOURITE batting!) And it’s quilted with Aurifil #2515 – a light mauve / pink colour. The ruler template I used is from Langley Vacuum and Sewing and has silicone on the back. It does not slip … at all! The flowers were quilted with the template and then I stippled in between the flowers. Would you believe that this little quilt used up 5 bobbins? Ya, I don’t believe it either … but it did!

  5. Hi Gail! I am thrilled to finally have one finish to be able to share after weeks of a draught. What a pretty finish you’ve shared. It’s kind of a wonky nine-patch block that I find very intriguing. And that template for the flower looks pretty darn cool. I love that the silicone doesn’t let the ruler slide easily – I need some of that on my rulers. Nice job all the way around! Thanks for the linky party! ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Hi Pamela … thank you! I wasn’t sure how to quilt this quilt, but I wanted to practice ruler quilting … so I just did the random flowers all over the quilt – it was fun! And got the job done! 🙂

  9. Thanks so much for sharing your recent quilt. I love how it looks. It’s very pretty and the quilting is so spot on. I adore all of those JustGetItDone videos, including the one you mentioned(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RePQz1eN5Ko. However, while her quilt was well loved and probably extra soft, I didn’t like the look of it in the end. I didn’t see your finish before sashing but I’m guessing that it felt too busy. Adding your extra touches makes the quilt lovely. In my opinion, I really don’t have ugly fabric. I’m sure I could find my least favorites but why bother with that quilt in the first place!!??

    • Thank you! Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pics before I added the sashing … but it was TOO busy for me! And this one was not made with ugly fabric, just extra fabric that didn’t have a designated purpose. I do have some ugly fabric – but that gets either cut up into small pieces (Bonnie Hunter’s saying ” if it’s still ugly, you haven’t cut it up small enough” or I use it on the back on something that will never be seen (Like a table runner). AND, I gave away a huge hunk of fabric I hated and the recipient LOVES it and has made several projects with it. That made me smile!!!
