Holidays: Part 3: Alpacas

That’s right! Alpacas! We visited a dear friend, Carmen, I’ve known her for ages and ages … she has an alpaca farm … just a few alpacas! It was a ton of fun! Her farm is called Prairie Spirit Alpacas,

Every single alpaca has a name! I can remember a few of the names, but Georgia is the only one I can identify! She’s the one with the spots on her. We were in the barn and it was feeding time for the gals and young gents that need extra food.

Each one has a different face and expression! I don’t think they liked me very much – many of their ears were back. And some of them looked at me as if to say, “who are you?”

I hope you enjoy the slide show … and can you pick out Georgia??? And to make this about quilting … look at all the various neutrals in their fleece!

The alpaca fleece is very soft – especially from the young. One thing I love about alpaca fleece is that it is hypoallergenic. AND, it’s warmer than sheep’s wool. More Quilting!

All of my posts have to have something about quilting in them! (my rule) … so here’s what’s happening in my studio!

I’ve been quilting a LOT on stuff I can’t show you … but here’s a sneak peak of my October Island Batik project. And, it wasn’t until I was posting this picture that I realize that the diagonal seam doesn’t go right into the corner … sigh!

There are (4) 4-piece blocks completed on my Scrappy Repro quilt. SEW, I could say that I’ve finished (4) 4-piece blocks this week!

  1. Those alpacas are just too darn cute and I love the wool. I had 2 once upon a time. You could hear a gurgle before they spit. My guys were trained so I could tell them no and they wouldn’t spit! Love your blocks and I’m very intrigued with your IB project, even if the seam doesn’t perfectly line up with the corner 😉

    • Carol, that is pretty cool that you had 2 alpacas and taught them to not spit! I’ll have to make sure that Carmen know that! 🙂

  14. OH what a wonderful post, quilting or not I just love those alpacas. I always love how they look like they have leg warmers on. I admire people who raise animals and take care of their needs. Thank you for sharing and your scrappy quilt is wonderful. I can’t resist a string quilt at all!
