Thanksgiving Monday

Yes, it’s Thanksgiving here in Canada. We celebrated yesterday … we did something totally different for our family … we had a fire in the backyard and made hotdogs, smokies, and smores. Would you believe I’d never had smores before? It was fun and we were able to socially distance … Will this be a new tradition for us? Who can tell? but … today I am missing the turkey left-overs!

Morewood Mystery: Cheryl from Meadow Mist Designs has a free mystery quilt that started in July and will conclude in April 2021. It’s not too late to join! Click HERE for a link to the mystery!

Even though I haven’t done one of Cheryl’s mystery’s before, I’ve always regretted it when the various quilts are posted. They are always lovely! Here’s a picture of a few of HST and the first part of the Irish Units. (I have until November to finish up the Irish Units – so I should be able to finish them by then!

From the Heart: Carol, from Just Let Me Quilt, is hosting a blog hop later this month. It’s called “From the heart” and it’s all about small gift ideas. I think it’ll be a great blog hop – especially with Christmas just around the corner. I have a lot of ideas … and have started one of them.

Quilting: 

Guild “Clue-Sew Fall 2020” Mystery Quilt: is quilted … here are a few more pictures of a couple of blocks …

Scrappy Repro has the borders on and is ready to be sandwiched and quilted. I went with a burgundy inner border and a neutral shirting outer border.

Stash Report

The guild Clue-Sew mystery quilt is completed. All fabrics except for the backing came from stash. Sew a total of 6 yards from stash was used.

Edit: I said 6 yards from stash and the 4 yards that I had previously purchased for the back … for a total of 10 yards …

      The kids have decided that perhaps an annual hot dog roast will be our new Thanksgiving tradition! They’re still talking about it!

  2. Sounds like a very fun (and safe) Thanksgiving. Smores are one of the Scientist in Training’s most favorite things. Maybe I should have some of those on hand for our Thanksgiving. Lots of stitching time and progress on multiple projects. Looking forward to seeing your version of Morwood come together. Cherly’s mysteries are always lots of fun.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving, Gail! You are a S’More Virgin No More!! :-). Although I confess I’ve no idea what smokies are. I would miss the leftover turkey, too, if I were you. But my one non-negotiable for Thanksgiving is that there needs to be TWO molasses pumpkin pies, one to share after Thanksgiving dinner, and the other to furtively eat for breakfast the next day, fooling absolutely no one because I do this every year… I adore your scrappy repro quilt! It seems perfect for this time of year. Have fun with the quilting!

      Smokies are like big sausages … some people actually put them in buns, but we tend to roast them on the fire (or BBQ), slice them, have toothpicks handy, and they are eaten as a snack. They come in many flavours. Some have cheese in the centre.
      I’m glad you like the scrappy repro … it’s growing on me, but I’m still not in love with it! I think I’ll quilt it with wild abandon – anything goes!

  8. Gail your Morewood Mystery fabrics look great. I really enjoy doing Cheryl’s QAL’s. I think I’ve done 3, perhaps 4. Loved your Thanksgiving dinner. I barbecued burgers for DH and myself tonight. Turkey for 2 was just out of the question this year. Too busy getting ready to do my civic duty for our Provincial Elections. Full safety protocols, masks, shields and plexiglass barriers with social distancing and hand washing/sanitizers recommended and available.

  9. I’ll have to keep your Thanksgiving event in mind — with ours being in late November I’m not sure about the outside part. And, if we aren’t outside we may not be getting together with the 15 to 20 of us who get together. I really like your Scrappy Repro. You do a great job of picking fabrics that work together.

    • It might be a little cold in November … but when we lived up north … I remember having fires and a hotdog roast at -10 C (which translates to 14 F) … as long as the weather isn’t super crappy – it’s doable! Hopefully your Thanksgiving works out!
      The fabrics for Scrappy Repro mostly came from a layer cake or charm pack of reproduction fabrics.

      Well. I’m excited to show the whole quilt … but I don’t want to ruin the mystery for everyone … so the sneak peeks are all anyone is getting! 🙂
      The Morewood mystery fabrics are from my Kansas Troubles stash. It used to be my favourite fabric … but I still like it! A LOT!!
