We’re having a heat wave

A serious heat wave. This is so unusual for Canada’s west coast! But our temperatures are over 41 C (translates to 106 F) and it’s not cooling off at night. No fun!!! It’s hard to have any energy to do anything … oh … and did I mention that our air conditioning is called a fan?

I have been working to get the Summer 2021 Mystery Quilt ready to roll. It takes time, but I was able to post the introduction on Saturday! You can read about it HERE.

Sew, even though not a lot is happening … here’s this week’s report:

Design Wall

Piecing

#1 Town Table Topper: This table topper is not finished, yet … On Friday, I showed the “unstitching that I needed to do … It’s now unstitched and the 2 offending blocks are switched around … but that’s as far as it’s gotten!

Quilting: 

#1 Island Batik July’s project: Still in progress … 2 days of ripping out did not help my progress or my mood with this project!

#2 Amish panels: put into one quilt top, sandwiched and ready to quilt. No progress on this.

No shopping, no buying … nothing finished …

  • Fabric Used this week      0  yards
  • Fabric Used this year:       69 yards
  • Fabric Bought this week:   0  yards
  • Fabric Added this year:      24.75 yards  (my husbands amounts as well)
  • Net Fabric used                  44.25 yards 
  • Husband’s purchases:  0 yards (which are added into my total amount of Fabric added this year). For those of you who don’t know … my husband often buys more fabric than I do … so, I’m keeping track! Unfortunately, he doesn’t sew!

Stitchin’ Time

I’m aiming for at least 30 minutes a day.

I have stitched for over 30 minutes most days this past week.

  • January – May–  150 / 150
  • June – 25 / 27
  • Percentage = 99 %

  2. I can’t imagine that heat without air conditioning. I can remember being a child growing up in Missouri before air conditioning. We had a heat wave one summer and we pretty much lived in the basement because it was the only cool place in the house. Hopefully temps have gone down and your energy levels are back up.

  4. I feel your pain with the heatwave. I am in Portland where it got up to 115℉. It’s been so hot that we’ve done little more than hang out in the basement and stream TV. I need to come up with a handwork project I can do in front of the TV.

  5. Gail this heat is insane! It hit 50c outside in the shade here at 19:30 and it was 99f in the kitchen (no air conditioning here either). Sitting with my feet in a tub of cool water helped some. Good thing my longarm studio is in the basement. I congratulate you on how much you got done this week in spite of the heat. Good luck on the rest of the week. Stay hydrated and try to have fun!

  6. Gail you managed to do well in spite of the heat! Your projects are coming along so nicely. I feel for you with no air since I’m in the same boat at the studio. It hit 50 C here at 7:30 tonight 😅. Stay hydrated and a sit with your feet in a tub of cool water. That’s helping me a bit! 😉

  7. Wow, on the heat and no AC! Hang in there. We’d all be low energy in that situation. You still are getting a lot done! I’m having trouble with squirrels myself.

  9. OMG, Gail!!! I have a friend in Portland that sent me a screenshot – 113 during the day, down to 106 at 7pm. WTH?!! I am so sorry to hear you are having the same heatwave and only a FAN. I would love to send you some of our rain – day one billion of more rain – not really but it seems forever. No sense complaining over the weather but gee whiz!! Yippee for getting the unstitching behind you. {{Hugs}} Here’s to MUCH cooler weather heading your way sooner than later. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Thanks, Roseanne! I know that living on the west (WET) coast will often find me complaining about the rain … but it is so dry, we certainly could use it! They are forecasting cooler weather … but that isn’t happening yet!
      Yes, unstitching is done! YAY!!! 🙂

  10. Ick! Sorry about the heatwave! I find the worst part is when it doesn’t cool off at night–I always feel like “if we could JUST get a reprieve at night!” So far, we haven’t had but a few days over 100 (F) and now it’s unusually rainy but I expect July and esp August to be more along your heatwave temps. Maybe we’ll get lucky though. For some reason I’m not getting your pics to load full–which I’m sure has to do with the coffee shop wifi–but from what I can see they look great! Good luck on the goals this week!

    • Sorry the pics aren’t loading … but I don’t think i can do much about that! 😦
      The problem with this heat is that we NEVER get temps this high … most people do not have air conditioning because we don’t need it … we’re seriously re-thinking that! 🙂

  14. We’re having a huge heat wave here, too. We’re just about 20 minutes north of Seattle. Our little portable ac units are having a hard time keeping up…making it miserable to work on projects right now. I really enjoy looking at your projects. I really like the Amish panels. A tour through Amish country is on my bucket list. Have a magical day! -Andrea

      You are pretty close to me!!! I’m only 10 minutes north of the Canadian / US border! There are absolutely NO portable ac units available here … and the stores are out of fans … luckily we have fans! 🙂 Stay cool!
