Carol, from Just Let Me Quilt has organized this fun blog hop. Here’s what Carol had to say about the challenge:
| Challenge: On the first day of each month, there is a tradition for people to say “white rabbit” first thing in the morning. The phrase is supposed to bring good luck for the rest of the month. Even President Roosevelt did this |
| Make something with white fabrics, rabbits, or white rabbits. What is a tradition you follow? |
Well, I had never heard of this tradition before! And, we don’t have a tradition that we follow on the first of the month. Unless you include changing the monthly calendar! LOL!!! But I have seen white rabbits in the winter, on the snow! Does that count?

When I first saw the name of this blog hop, I immediately thought about the quilt pattern “Bunny Hugs” by The Sugar Pine Company. (If you want the pattern, you can get it HERE.)
I decided to use Island Batik fabric from the “Baby Bloomers” collection along with some Porcelain Fireside to add texture to the bunnies. Hobbs 80/20 is in the middle. The quilting was a simple walking foot straight line along with stippling in the dark purple areas.

I am allergic to Batiks so can;t work with them, BUT I do love their look. This is a super fun quilt and perfect for this hop. I prefer simple quilting to ‘overkill’ – especially on a child’s quilt.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re allergic to batik fabric! That’s no fun!!! I find that my allergies are not as bad with batik as with regular cotton. I’m not sure if it’s due to the fact that the batik fabric (Island Batik) doesn’t fray, so there’s less lint in the air … but I certainly love them!!!

This is the perfect bunny quilt for this hop. I even think the quilting gives the illusion there is more piecing in it – very interesting. It is such a fun quilt!

Thanks, Kathleen. The piecing was pretty simple. And I enjoyed making it!

I love that quilt and yours is adorable. The straight-line quilting was just the right amount. I’d never heard about saying “white rabbit” though if you carried a rabbit’s paw it was supposed to bring luck.

You can’t look at that quilt without smiling! I’ve heard you should say “rabbit, rabbit” on the month, so “white rabbit” was new to me.

Thanks, Wendy! I haven’t heard ‘rabbit, rabbit’ nor ‘white rabbit’ so maybe it’s a non-Canadian thing! 🙂
