Something Fun and Some Good News

Something Fun

Last week I attended a class on rope bowl making!!! It was a LOT of fun!!! It was inspiring to see the plethora of bowls that Sandra and Doris showed us!!! So inspiring!!!

I ended up making a bowl with a braid on the rim. It’s not finished yet, as I need to decide what to do with the 3 strands from the braid. If I can find some beads with wide holes, I’ll use them … otherwise, I might end up doing 3 coils on the side.

Now, this could easily become an addiction … and with all the quilting I do, I don’t need a crafty addiction!

I am now a Silly Moon affiliate! So what does that mean? When you use my affiliate code Quiltinggail2024 at Silly Moon, you will receive 10% off your order and I may receive a small commission.

Kate, from Life in Pieces, is hosting “Stitching Stuff” and the goal is to sew for at least 15 minutes a day. I use Kate’s guideline, but my personal goal is to sew for 30 minutes a day. On those “blah” days, it does motivate me to sit at my machine and 30 minutes often turns into several hours. Thank you Kate for the motivation!

Design Wall Mondays

Judy, at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts, hosts a linky party for “What’s on your Design Wall” every week.

Piecing projects:

  • Island Batik October project. This is a byAnnie bag called “Payday.”
  • Fall ’24 mystery quilt. Some progress made
  • 2025 SAHRR. I’ve started …
  • Monthly Colour Challenge: Layout (Jen has posted the sashing and border blocks for this challenge. You can access it HERE.). I’ll be doing this as a leader and ender.
  • Twilight Blog Hop – for Create with Claudia – in progress

Quilting:

  • Stash Yardage” I took 2 pieces of stash and sandwiched them.

Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!

I finished my Marvellous Mini for Island Batik, and I made 2 of them. I estimate that they used about 2 yards each. You can read about them HERE.

No shopping

  1. Stunning bowls! A lady at Saturday Sampler last weekend brought some similar ones that she is making. I’m hoping someone here will do a class because they look like fun. Congrats on the new affiliation.

  2. Your rope bowl looks amazing. I love the braid edge. A fellow guild member loves making these bowls too and has taught several classes at LQS. I’m with you on not needing another hobby — busy enough with quilting, etc. I’m inclined to buy a beautiful one rather than take up the craft! Lol!

  3. Hi Gail, I love the rim on your bowl. If you want, you could string up some beads and then stitch them onto the cording ends – it might be easier than finding huge beads!
