Here’s what Island Batik said about this month’s challenge:
| December brings another month to embark on your own project, regardless of its size, theme, or technique! Seize this chance to unleash your creativity without constraints. Enjoy the process! |
Way back in May, we had to make a paper pieced quilt that celebrated a holiday of our choice. I chose to make this Christmas tree skirt:

You can read about it HERE. The fabric is Peppermint Sprinkles. And, I LOVED it!
I wanted a quilt to coordinate with the tree skirt. I cut a bunch of 2 1/2” strips from Peppermint Sprinkles and made this Judy Niemeyer quilt “Fractured Paint Box.” I also used, Island Batik’s solid black. You can access the pattern HERE.

I was so involved with the piecing, I forgot to take any progress pictures. However, I can tell you that I used my Oliso Iron with every single seam that was sewn!
And pictures of the back and close-up of the quilting:

The back diagonal strip was made with the extra block I had as well as left over strips of fabric, along with solid black.
Quilt Stats:
- Size: 59″ x 59″
- Fabric: Island Batik: Peppermint Sprinkles
- Hobbs Batting Heirloom: 80/20
- Aurifil Thread: Piecing and Quilting: #2600 (Dove Grey)
- Schmetz Needles: Universal 80/12
- Quilting: All done on my domestic sewing machine: Janome M7. Rulers used were Silly Moon’s 7″ Beanie (for the centre circle) and Rocket for the stitch in the ditch around each block. The rest of the quilt was free motioned with feathers.
Thank you!
The following, Island Batik and Industry partners made this project possible. They supplied the products for free as my role as an Island Batik Ambassador! Island Batik, Aurifil Thread, Hobbs Batting, Schmetz Needles, Oliso Iron.

Lovely quilt! The quilting on it is wonderful. I really loved your tree skirt, so it’s nice to see the fabric in another project. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2024/12/03/wednesday-wait-loss-409

That is a gorgeous quilt to go with your tree skirt. I love this, but it does look like a lot of seams!!

Hi Kathleen,
It is a lot of seams, but like all quilts, it was done, one seam at a time! LOL!!!

So bright and pretty. My first thought was it looks like a stained glass window. Definitely doesn’t look like a “left overs” quilt at all.

Thanks, Kate. Well, I guess “left-overs’ is a bit misleading as I had enough fabric to create a jelly roll! Which is what works for the pattern! 🙂

I love this Gail! Peppermint Sprinkles is one of my favorites from that season, and I love both projects you did with it. That stripe of blocks across the back is exciting! Have a great day.
