Tilt-a-Whirl

This was a test quilt for Brenda of Songbird Designs. You can see her more colourful quilt and order the pattern HERE.

I was going to use a layer cake (10″ stack) as directed by the pattern, but I decided to use yardage from my stash instead.

These fabrics had be languishing in my stash, waiting for their opportunity to shine.

I must say, this quilt was super easy to put together and sewed up quickly!

Here it is:

And a close up of the quilting … I used Silly Moon’s Turkey in the white blocks and echo’d it. The straight edge of charming was used for the straight lines on the prints and border.

Quilt Stats:

  • Size: 40.5″ x 53″
  • Block size: 12″
  • Fabric: the prints are both from the “Sweet Dreams” collection (by KANVAS Studio) … one is “Stacked Sheep” and the other is “Dreamy Clouds.”
  • Hobbs Batting: Heirloom 80/20
  • Aurifil Thread: 50 weight
    • Piecing & Quilting: #2600 (Dove Grey)
  • Silly Moon Rulers: Turkey and Charming
  • Schmetz Needles: Universal 80/12
  • Oliso Iron

  1. Hi Gail, I really love your quieter version of Brenda’s pattern. It’s really lovely and the quilting works well. Thanks so much for linking up to I Quilted This! Have a great weekend.

  2. Now, how did you ever manage keeping that sweet sheep print hidden away in your stash? Glad you pulled it out for this quilt. It adds just the right childhood whimsy to what would otherwise be just another blue and white quilt. I love that subtle touch!
