Sunday Summary: August 9

Kate, from Life in Pieces, is hosting “Stitching Stuff” and the goal is to sew for at least 15 minutes a day. I use Kate’s guideline, but my personal goal is to sew for 30 minutes a day. On those “blah” days, it does motivate me to sit at my machine and 30 minutes often turns into several hours. Thank you Kate for the motivation!

I sew when I can, but it definitely isn’t every day!

Dog on my Quilt

Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!

I finished the “Twilt-a-whirl” quilt! The fabric from this quilt was all from my stash. You can read about it HERE.

  • Fabric used this week: 5 yards
  • Fabric Used in 2026:     90.5 yards (61 yards from non-Island Batik)
  • Fabric Added in the last week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Added this year:    4 yards

Rainbow Scrap Challenge

Rainbow Scrap Challenge: yellow fabrics are on my cutting board. Ready to be cut into 2 1/2” squares for 9 patches

I have participated in the monthly colour challenge with Patterns by Jen in past years. There was a break last year, but Jen is back with the monthly blocks this year. The theme is frogs … here is what Jen says about the theme: This year our color inspiration is coming from the amazing frog. I was a little concerned as I started researching frog colors that there wouldn’t be enough colors for the year, I mean, they are all green, right? 😉 Imagine my delight when I found frogs of (almost) every color of the rainbow, as well as a black frog that makes me want to take him home and love him.

Each month, the patterns are free, but when the month is over, there is a $1 fee to pay for the pattern. I am using scraps of Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics).

June’s block is the Black Rain Frog. I know, I know … there is no black in this block. However, I want to use black in the sashing and border, so I chose 2 shades of purple. My choice, right?

And each of the blocks so far this year:

This is a Sew-a-long by Red Boot Quilt Company. I’m using scraps of Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics). Each of the blocks have trapunto and the appliqué is adhered with a small zig-zag stitch.

Block #10 is printed … now to choose the fabrics …

Update: Last week, I told you about my experience with the cap on my jug of Terial Magic. I notified the company and this is what they said, “This is the first time we have ever seen something like this in well over a decade of selling Terial.  It’s probably not a deteriorating cap.  It’s probably just a cap that had a manufacturing issue.” Well, although I didn’t respond back, my thought was, “It’s still a malfunctioning cap on YOUR product.”

About 3-4 years ago, I bought a large jug of Terial Magic. I use it often for embroidery. It stiffens the fabric and I can use way less stabilizer.

However, my husband moved the jug and realized that the cap had deteriorated. UGG!!! It’s not a product you want spilled anywhere!!! And because my husband is anal and saves all sorts of things, he was able to replace the cap. So, just as a warning to you, if you use Terial Magic, make sure that your caps are intact.
