Purple was the Rainbow Scrap Challenge for July. This is hosted by So Scrappy. I do know it’s August, and Teal is the colour for this month. But sometimes, things don’t get done right when I want them to and they need to wait to be finished! This is the Butterfly quilt from the book Picture Patchwork book by JoAnn Lepore. This is the 4th quilt I have made from this book. Hmmm … I think I highly recommend that you buy it!
And here’s a close up of the quilting. I used Rocket for the straight lines, and free motioned the curves on the dark purple and swirls on the lighter purples.

I finished these 2 Retreat Bags this past week. The blue hexi one is the small size and the bee one is the large … even though the pictures don’t look like it. See THIS POST for more details.
Stitching Stuff
Kate, from Life in Pieces, is hosting “Stitching Stuff” and the goal is to sew for at least 15 minutes a day. I use Kate’s guideline, but my personal goal is to sew for 30 minutes a day. On those “blah” days, it does motivate me to sit at my machine and 30 minutes often turns into several hours. Thank you Kate for the motivation!
“Bloomers:” I decided to use fabric from the Radiant Burst collection! And the main blocks are started with Eggwhite and Solid White. All the embroidery blocks and hexi and half hexi blocks are done!
Rainbow Scrap challenge, Teal fabrics: making Jacob’s Ladder blocks … so pretty!
I’ve cut out the pieces for the Magnificent Mystery by Meadow Mist Designs (See HERE … it’s definitely NOT too late to join!). I used fabrics from my stash … they are OLD. I bought them at the Wild Rose Quilt store in Orting, WA, many many years ago!
Quilting projects:
Splish Splash (an Island Batik fabric strip pack) is webbed together and needs a backing, sandwiching and quilting.

Sunday Stash
Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!

This is ALMOST all true!! However, I don’t think I’ve EVER tidied the sewing studio to avoid starting a new project!! I might tidy before starting a new project so that I can a) find space on my ironing board or b) find space on my cutting table or c) find space to actually work on the project!
A Quick Finish
These placemats were completed for a “Christmas in July” blog hop. See HERE for more details.

Swan
I finished quilting the Swan. This pattern was from the book “Picture Patchwork” by JoAnn Lepore. Earlier in the spring, I wrote a review of this book HERE. This quilt called for 3″ squares, but since I wanted a smaller quilt, I raided my blue and neutral Island Batik scraps and cut 2 1/2” squares.
And here’s a close up of the quilting. Feathers in the white part of the swan and small curves outlining all of the other blocks in the quilt. It’s all free motion on my domestic sewing machine.
And, I have one more pattern from this book in progress – using Purple!
Quilt Stats:
Size: 50″ x 57″
Fabric: Island Batik: scraps of blue and neutrals, solid black and solid red.

Last year, my sister and 2 cousins and I went to Lori’s Country Cottage for their longest day of the year sale. It was a lot of fun. We went for the 10 pm part of the sale, where everything was 40% off! Yup it was fun! One of the employees climbed up on a cutting table and took this picture. They posted it on their Facebook page to advertise this year’s sale. (I’m the one in the white at the front of the picture and my sister is towards the back of the line … my cousins had already left as they were finished shopping). Unfortunately, I wasn’t in Edmonton to go this year, but my sister went to on Friday night and got lots of goodies!
Glowing Hearts Quilt Along
I often join in MMM Quilts sew alongs each spring. She always has interesting patterns and ways of doing something. This year did not disappoint! See THIS POST for details on my Glowing Hearts Quilt.
This used 13 fat quarters from “Bluebird” by Editya Sitar. There is Hobbs Batting 80/20 inside, Aurifil Thread #2600 (Dove Grey) and Schmetz Needles were used. The project was pressed with my Oliso Iron m3Pro. I used Silly Moon‘s “Cupid” for the quilting on my domestic machine!

It is. If you take any pattern and change the colours, it’ll be a totally different look. I’ve been known to add more blocks or rows for a larger quilt, or take away blocks or columns for a smaller quilt. However, whenever I do this, I always credit the original designer because the basis of the quilt is their idea, not mine.
An Island Batik Challenge completed
I made two Funky Friend squirrels. You can read about their adventures HERE.
Another Left-over Finish
see THIS POST for details on these placemats:
This used fabric from Island Batik‘s (Lumin Fabrics) Tinsel Treasures and Midnight Blue (a foundation that is available all the time. There is Hobbs Batting fusible inside, Aurifil Thread #2600 (Dove Grey) and Schmetz Needles were used. The project was pressed with my Oliso Iron m3Pro.
I’m using a 2 1/2” stack of Island Batik’s “Splish Splash.” It’s a recently release collection. I love the seahorses, fish, bubbles … well, I just love the whole line of these fabrics. I’m using a pattern from The Fat Quarter Shop called “Jelly Roll Twist” and you can get the free pattern HERE. And, as I said earlier, “A Pattern is only a suggestion.” I’ll be making it a little bigger … it’ll be 7 blocks by 7 blocks.
Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!

I appreciate each of you that leaves comments on my blog!! It’s fun to read about YOU!!
However, I know that many of you have difficulty leaving comments and I honestly do not know what to do about it. I moderate each of the comments (that’s why they don’t show up right away) so that you don’t have to read about the ugly stuff / junk that some try to slip in!
Anyhow, I notice that the vast majority of comments are “anonymous” and I have no idea who you are. If you could simply put your name after the comment, I’d appreciate it! Thank you! And Thank you to those that leave your name!

This was my Island Batik challenge for April. I used Drunkard’s Path blocks to make all the animals. See this POST for more details … and for a link to the original pattern. And yes, some of my birds and animals were my design … and the quilting on the animals was also my own designs. I used the 7″ finished Drunkard’s Path Accuquilt die to cut these blocks.
and then I made a mini quilt using the smaller (3 1/2“) Drunkard’s Path blocks (cut with an Accuquilt die).
Retreat!
These are the projects that I took to the retreat … I didn’t touch the Butterfly one, The Swan got partially done, the misc projects weren’t touched, the train got done to flimsy stage, and the Island Batik May and June projects got partially done. Here are my Blue Blocks … all quilted and finished. It’s been raining so much, that I haven’t taken a picture outside, so all you get is a picture of it on my design wall. It’s made totally of 2 1/2” squares of Island Batik blue scraps … including aqua, light & dark blue and any scrap IB fabric with blue in it. Along with Island Batik solid white. Quilted on my domestic sewing machine (Janome M7) using a rounded swirl motif (that’s my name for the motif).
I’m off to a retreat tomorrow at Over the Rainbow Lodge. It’s an excellent place to retreat and I’m really looking forward to spending time with my quilting friends!! Of course, I’m taking more projects than I can possibly finish in a week, but I’m OK with that! The last 2 black & white photos are my May and June Island Batik challenges. Canuck Quilter Mystery Quilt. Oh, yes, I’m a sucker for mystery quilts and I’ve done at least one, if not more from Canuck Quilter. Her designs are always fun to make! This mystery started on March 13, so obviously, I’m a bit behind. I’ve settled on 3 of the 4 fabrics needed. Once I’ve made the final choice, I’ll begin cutting. You can access the free pattern HERE.

Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!
Nope, I still haven’t bought any fabric yet this year!!! I’m not sure, but this might be a new record for me!
I finished this little zipper pouch using Island Batik fabric, Hobbs 80/20 batting, Aurifil thread and Schmetz needles. The project used just over 1/2 yard of fabric.
Fabric used in the last week: 0.5 yards
Fabric Used in 2025: 47 yards. {7.5 yards of non Island Batik fabric}

Leaving Comments on my Blog
I appreciate each of you that leaves comments on my blog!! It’s fun to read about YOU!!
However, I know that many of you have difficulty leaving comments and I honestly do not know what to do about it. I moderate each of the comments (that’s why they don’t show up right away) so that you don’t have to read about the ugly stuff / junk that some try to slip in!
Anyhow, I notice that the vast majority of comments are “anonymous” and I have no idea who you are. If you could simply put your name after the comment, I’d appreciate it! Thank you!
