Citrus Colours
Day 16: Today’s prompt is “Citrus Colours.”
I don’t have very many quilts that are only citrus colours. Each of these was made for a challenge. So they are not necessarily what I would choose to do on my own. However, once they were made, I found that I really liked each of them. And yes, they all used Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics).
And, there are absolutely NO quilts that are mostly Lime coloured!

Quilted Wearables
Day 16: Today’s prompt is “Quilted Wearables.”
I made this robe using several different Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics) collections, Accuquilt dies and I LOVE it! For the pattern, I deconstructed a robe that I bought in China. The Accuquilt dies I used were the Glorified 9 patch (on the front) and Tree of Life (on the back. It is lined with rayon (the part you can see is an Island Batik rayon).
I keep thinking that I need to make a quilted jacket, but haven’t done so … yet!

On the Wall
Day 16: Today’s prompt is “On the Wall.”
I have several quilts on my walls, especially in the sewing studio, but since this is a “Lazy Summer Quilt Camp,” I’m going to be lazy and only show you a few!
I “won” this at a retreat in the Secret Sister exchange. It is precious to me. Patti B has always been super encouraging with all my quilting endeavours. When I see this, I smile and think of the dear person she is.
And there are many quilts on my studio walls, but these ones are hanging in other areas of the house: The first one is hanging over my bed and the 2nd one is in the living room.

Something Old
Day 16: Today’s prompt is “Something Old.”
An Old Quilt
This quilt was made by my fraternal grandma. I believe that it was given to my parents for their wedding in 1950. However, I could be wrong. I remember seeing it often on my parents bed when I was young. However, after my mom passed away, I found it languishing in a trunk. Yes, some of the fans are torn, and I will never use this quilt. However, it has been displayed on a quilt rack from time to time.
Old Fabric
Many years after my grandmother passed away, my aunt asked if I would like to have her fabric. Well, duh, that question was answered with great speed!
I have 11 cousins on my grandma’s side of the family. I decided to make each cousin, as well as my sister and I a quilt with Grandma’s fabric. I did buy background and backing fabric, but the prints were all from grandma’s stash.
So, I made a total of 13 scrappy quilts.
I made a 14th quilt with Grandma’s fabrics. It is the only one that is not scrappy. It was made with one print. This was for one of my cousin’s daughter that was dealing with cancer.

Purple Pizzazz
Day 15: Today’s prompt is “Purple Pizzazz.”
When this prompt came up, I could only think of one purple quilt … this one, made with the Glorified 9 patch Accuquilt die and Island Batik purple scraps.
However, when I went searching, I found a couple more. The first one is a paper pieced pattern (by Carol Doak) and was given to my niece. The 2nd one is a pattern from Teresa Down Under (HERE) and was given to a friend’s sister battling cancer. (Happily, she is doing OK now!)

Day 14: Today’s prompt is “Pets and Quilts.”
At the moment, we don’t have any pets … however, we do dog sit my daughter’s dog. She travels for work and takes holidays and we get the dog!! I LOVE it!

Smallest Quilt
Day 13: Today’s prompt is “Smallest Quilt.”
This is my smallest quilt … although I’ve made mug rugs, but I don’t really consider them quilts. However, this was quilted with intention. It is 12″ x 12″. It was made for Hobbs batting and actually hung in a booth at Houston. (I know it’ll be my only claim to fame to be in the Houston Quilt show!). It was made with scraps from the Petal Poetry collection.

Scraps, Beautiful Scraps
Day 12: Today’s prompt is “Scraps, beautiful scraps.”
I ♥️ scrap quilts. Years ago, I was all about dumpster diving at sewing events, pulling out those scraps others were throwing away. Then, I made a scrap quilt without using a single scrap of my own. That was the end of my dumpster diving days. I had, and still have, a plethora of scraps. I do not need other people’s scraps!!
I have LOTS of scrappy quilts … but I’m only posting a few of them today!
This is one of my favourite scrap quilts. In fact, I will be doing a workshop on this quilt in March at the guild.
In the Fall of 2022, I hosted a mystery scrappy quilt … this was my prototype. I originally made this quilt for an Island Batik challenge using the “4 Patch Square Up” tool by Studio 180.
Then, in 2021, Kelly Young’s of My Quilt Infatuation, had her “Scrappy Improv Quilting” book published. You can read about it HERE. (And it’s a fabulous, wonderful book!)

Glorious Greens
Day 11: Today’s prompt is “Glorious Greens.”
Leanne said “Mint…forest…emerald…olive…lime…There are so many fabulous shades of green! How have you used green in your quilts?”
When I was considering green quilts, I knew that I haven’t made many ‘green’ quilts. Yes, lots of quilts have green in them, but other than the “Shakespeare in the Park“ that I showed the other day for my largest quilt, I couldn’t think of a single one. Then I went searching … The first one is puff quilt that I made for an Island Batik challenge in 2023, and it’s back also has a lot of green in it. Then there is the baby quilt and finally a picture of the unfinished Labyrinth quilt that I finished in 2017.

Binding Beauty
Day 9: Today’s prompt is “Binding Beauty.”
I know I’m strange, but I do enjoy putting binding on a quilt. It’s the last step (and I often attach the label with the binding) and it’s nice to know that the end is in sight!
There are 3 bindings that I use regularly … and one occasionally
First, a simple binding that coordinates with the quilt. All the same fabric
A scrappy binding, using strips of varying lengths that are left-over from the quilt
A flange binding
Occasionally: a self binding, where I use the backing fabric and turn it onto the front of the quilt
All of my bindings are 2 1/4” in width. I find that 2 1/2” is just too wide and 2″ is a bit too tight (but will do in a pinch if I’m short on fabric.
This quilt has a simple binding … it’s the same fabric as the inner border. (you can read more about this quilt HERE)
This quilt is a fun one. I tested this “Starry Path” pattern for Brenda at Songbird Designs. (See HERE). And the binding is scrappy.
Flange quilts take a bit longer to do, but can be very effective!

Favourite Block
Day 8: Today’s prompt is “Favourite Block.” Oh my … how in the world is one suppose to pick a favourite block? I mean, there are so many.
This is what Leanne said about today’s prompt, “Is there a particular block you find yourself drawn to again and again? One you’ve used for multiple quilts or that you love making when you just need to sew mindlessly?”
I LOVE star blocks … any kind of star block … but some of my favourite are ones that I have in several patterns I’ve written. But I also love pinwheels, 4 patches, 9 patches and the list goes on and on …
I will limit myself to showing you only 3 star quilts!
The first quilt is the very first quilt I made using an Accuquilt. It was so very easy to put together. I’ve been in LOVE with my Accuquilt ever since making this quilt. This quilt also has 4 patches and pinwheels … other favourite blocks!
The 2nd one is “Baby Stars.” I made this for an Island Batik catalogue several years ago.
The 3rd one is a quilt that was published in a magazine. However, most of the blocks are quarter-square triangles with the end result being a star quilt.

Beautiful Blues
Day 6: Today’s prompt is “Beautiful Blues.” Blue is my favourite colour. This quilt was for an Island Batik challenge. I loved working with all the blue fabrics! Interestingly, I just changed out quilts and this went on one of the spare beds a few days ago!

Biggest Quilt
This quilt is the largest quilt I’ve ever made … and I won’t be making another king sized quilt ever again!! And yes, it was quilted on my domestic sewing machine. However, once the quilt was finished … I LOVED it! The pattern is “Shakespeare in the Park“ by Judy Martin in her book “The Creative Pattern Book.” Of course, I made it much larger than the pattern …

Day 3
Day 3: Texture For Days
I wasn’t sure what to do for this prompt … until I read, “or some dense free motion quilting.” Well, yes, I have a quilt with dense free motion quilting. (To be honest, I no longer have it … a friend of mine loved it – so it’s hers!)
This quilt was done for an Island Batik challenge using “Pompeii Red,” a 3 colour builder pack. There was a LOT of heavy stitching … apparently I used 10 bobbins … It’s a small mini, 16″ x 18″. I named it “Mt. Vesuvius Eruption.” You can read more about it HERE.

Yes, I’m LAZY, and it’s summer and at the moment I don’t feel like quilting much (too much other stuff happening in my life!). But this I can do!! I don’t have to post every day and I’ve already missed Day #1 … so … this could be doable!
Day 1
Day 1: was “5 things about me.” Here goes:
1. I live in the city of Surrey, in the SW of British Columbia, Canada
2. I grew up in Victoria, BC and made my first quilt before I graduated from high school.
3. I graduated from nursing school 50 years ago!!! How can it be that long ago? It seems like just a few years ago!
4. After Victoria, I lived in Fort St James (the middle of BC) and learned to quilt from a group of church ladies … we made quilts for all the couples getting married. It was a total joint effort, piecing and quilting by hand.
5. In 2005, I bought my first decent sewing machine and took a few quilting classes and learned a lot of quilting techniques from the internet.
Day #2
Day 2: Most Used Quilt: This quilt is a family favourite!! It started out as a swap from quilters across Canada. The pattern was an old one from Fat Cat patterns. We were all to make several 3 layer flower block, raw edge applique 1/4” from the edge on tone-on-tone fabric. Then we swapped the blocks. When I laid all the blocks out, it looked horrid!! So, I promptly cut each block in quarters diagonally and pieced them all back together. Then, it became something I could live with. I added the sashing and quilted around and through each flower. This quilt has been washed numerous times and is oh so soft. It is the first quilt grabbed by family members when they want to cuddle under a quilt.

At the Boundary Bay Quilt show, there is always a baby quilt challenge. This year the challenge was “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.” I pondered this theme for several weeks. My sister saw this quilt on Facebook, but neither of us could find the original designer or pattern.
Update: It appears that it might have been designed by Cozy Quilt Patterns.
Obviously to fit in the theme of the quilt, I changed the moon to a star.
I used many fabrics from different Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics) collections. The main border and binding were “Midnight Blue.” The 2 1/2” strips were cut and sewn in an order that I liked. My thoughts were that stars often appear in the night sky before it’s totally dark on the horizon.
The 8 point star was drawn and the puppy was printed out and traced. After the strips and borders were sewn, the star and puppy were appliquéd on using a small zig-zag stitch.
It was a fun quilt to quilt!! Clouds and stars in the sky, grass on the ground. And here are some close ups of the quilting.
Surprise!
I was extremely surprised when it won both 1st and 2nd place in the challenge. The comments I heard was “it was the puppy dog!”

Fabric: Island Batik: Strips from various collections plus a 10″ yellow square from “Opulent Oranges” (for the star) and “Midnight Blue” for border and binding.
