A friend saw a quilt that I had made in 2007 on my Facebook page. She asked if I had the pattern. I couldn’t find the pattern any where. I looked through all my files – both paper and on the computer.
I have made at least 5 quilts using this pattern. This was when I was first getting back into quilting. It is easy to pick 3 co-ordinating fabrics, the blocks are big and go together easily.
The pictures above are 2 others that I did. The one on the left was given to a dear friend when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The one on the right was gifted to a nephew. (It’s a poor picture because the main fabrics are a very pretty dusty blue – the colour is more true in the picture below.)
Here is a picture of the quilting. I just did an all-over meander on my nephew’s. The green one above and the bright blue ones both have stippling in the background fabric and straight lines on the coloured portions. At the time, I didn’t know about ruler quilting or quilting straight lines with free motion and I remember turning the quilt a zillion times to get the look I wanted. The green one has added borders and was a lot more difficult to turn around!
My son received another one that I made, but alas I don’t have a picture. And yes, I know I should ask him to send me a picture!
There’s another one that is in a box, partially done. It’s on my UFO list and a potential finish for my PHD. You may see it finished before the year is out … but no promises.
Edit: Update: another friend told me that this quilt is also known as a Carpenter’s Star. If you google it, you can find a pattern. (I couldn’t find a good pattern when I googled “Carpenter’s Wheel.” So google, “Carpenter’s Star.”
