PHD in 2018 April Report

I’m home from the retreat!  What a great time I had with some very amazing quilting friends!

I did manage to get this quilt totally quilted and bound.  It’s big, it’s heavy and I won’t be taking a pic of the full quilt until it’s washed and hanging on the line.  I spent most of the whole retreat quilting this.  The backing turned out to be a brushed cotton / flannel and it was a challenge to manipulate it through the machine.

Orca Bay2

I did some piecing on these blocks … FracturedLesson learned from the retreat … take smaller and more manageable projects to work on!

I will be posting pictures from the retreat in my next blog post(s).

Stash Report

IMG_1634Some of the gals at the retreat are faithful blog followers.  One teased me about my stash report. Endlessly!  Oh yes, endlessly!  Yup … she kept reminding me that I’d have to report what I bought.  She threatened to measure my fabric purchases to ensure I was being honest (BIG GRIN).  On the first day, I didn’t go up to the shop.  On the 2nd day, I went to the shop and came home with nothing, not even a 2″ scrap of fabric.  On the 3rd day … well, you can see the picture on the left.

The dark blue is backing for the Fractured Paint Box I was slowly piecing.  The giraffe fabric … well, it was love at first sight!  and then of course, the coordinating fabric as well!  I did buy 2 other fabrics not shown:  one for a secret project and the other was binding on my Orca Bay. The total: 11 yards.

Orca Bay used 15 yards for the top … 5 yards for the back … oh my – no wonder it’s HEAVY!

Fabric Used this Week:    20  yards
Fabric Used year to Date:  149.6  yards
Fabric Added this Week:     11  yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 27 yards
Net Fabric used for 2017:  122.6  yards

    • Hi Becca,
Thank you. I’m sure I’m going to love it.
Oh the blocks I work on at the retreat… I think it will be a very pretty quilt. I love blue, so I think I’ll also love this quilt once it’s done!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  2. FYI….I haven’t used much. I also haven’t bought much. Less than 5 yards. I have 4 UFO’s. I really struggle starting something new if I haven’t finished what I have already began. I have never been a fabric collector (I am just to cheap) haha! But I will admit the project I worked on at retreat was started 4 years ago. Today all rows got sewn together. Now for 2 borders then onto the quilting machine. I love you Gail and giving you a hard time!!

    • Ah, Leslee … I must admit, I do admire your restraint! To not buy fabric and to finish what you start!

Good for you getting all your rows sewn together! I can’t wait to see a finished picture!

I know you love me and LOVE giving me a hard time! And … I can take it!

      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  3. I think you are safely in the used category! =) You have some great finishes for your PhD, too. I think you’re doing well with your goals. The year isn’t half over, and you are more than halfway there!

  4. Congrats on the finish! You are moving along with the PhD challenge. You’ve done so well in the out column, I’d be looking at the in column as stash refreshment, not stash additions. Happy stitching this month.

  6. Hi Gail,
You are rocking right along on those UFOs. You are definitely going to surpass you goal for this year. It sure sounds like you had a great time at the retreat, and have a huge finish to show for it. Great job! I love the binding peeking out in the picture you shared – I love the whole quilt. It really is beautiful. I’m glad you had a fun time! ~smile~ Roseanne
