Turnabout Patchwork

Screen Shot 2018-12-08 at 1.45.32 PMDid you know about this new book?  I was (am) lucky enough to recieve an advance copy.  The only thing was … I HAVE to make a quilt using one of the patterns in the book.  YEAH!!  An excuse to make another quilt!!! And, I love the challenge of trying something new!

The author is Teresa Mairal Barreu.  She’s an Australian author and blogs at Sewn Up … which you can link to it HERE.

I love the premise of this book.  You make a specific block, cut it as directed and voilá  – you have a completely different block with a difference!  It’s a little like the disappearing 9 patch and disappearing 4 patch … but with totally different results!

It took me a while to decide which quilt I was going to make first!  They are each sooooo tempting!  I debated over several different ones … The first one I decided to make is Shells.  I love half square triangles and this arrangement is different to me.  With all the white space, I will have fun quilting it!

SEW … I also need a quilt in a hurry … it needs to be done by Jan. 4 and it needs to have purple, maroon or army green in it.  I went through my stash … looking for something IMG_2741that would fit the bill.  I found this purple and the white batik.   I have just enough purple to make it work!

Decision is made.

I’ve cut the initial blocks, sewn the first step and did the next cutting.

The only thing I did different than the instructions was to trim the corners first.  Just need to get rid of the dog ears – the easy way.

DrEAMI

There is a buzz in blog-land about DrEAMi … This stands for DRop Everything And Make It.  I’ll be linking to this when the quilt is finished.

Happy Quilting!
