One Gift a Month

This month’s gift is Soup Bowl Cozies. You can go to Days Filled With Joy for information and links to several different on-line tutorials.
So far for the One Gift a Month, I have made January’s, February’s, and April’s gifts.

Yes, I will be making Soup Bowl Cozies … soon. But I need to warn you, somewhere – a while ago, I read that one lady made a Soup Bowl Cozy and her biggest complaint was that it leaked! Yes, you read correctly! She was complaining that the bowl leaked! I guess she didn’t understand that the Cozy was intended for the bowl to be placed in the cozy, not for the soup to be placed in it! I know that none of my readers will make that mistake! Right?
Classic Cars: Monthly Colour Challenge

May’s Classic Car colour is Baby Blue …. ooohhhh … a favourite colour of mine! Visit Patterns by Jen HERE for your free download of this month’s block …
Here’s my May block and the January, February, March, April and May blocks … all made with Island Batik scraps …

Stitching Stuff

Kate, from Life in Pieces, is hosting “Stitching Stuff” and the goal is to sew for at least 15 minutes a day. I use Kate’s guideline, but my personal goal is to sew for 30 minutes a day. On those “blah” days, it does motivate me to sit at my machine and 30 minutes often turns into several hours. Thank you Kate for the motivation!

Stash Report

Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!
When I was at the retreat a few weeks ago, a group of us went to Overseas Fabrics. As we left the retreat room, I insisted that I was NOT going to buy any fabric!!! Well, that lasted until I saw the following fabric. Really, how could I resist? I purchased 2 yards of each.

The past 2 week’s finishes include:
- Studio 180 Island Batik challenge (May) 7 yards
- Baby Stars 6 yards
- Retreat Bag 1 yard

Yearly Tally:
- Fabric Used the past 2 weeks: 14 yards
- Fabric Used in 2023: 101 yards from non-IB: 43.5
- Fabric Bought this week: 4 yards
- Fabric Added this year: 12.5 yards
- Net Fabric used: 88.5 yards
Just an FYI: I do not count any fabric that is given to me (Island Batik), but this year, I am going to count it as fabric used.

Sometimes you just have to add some fun stuff to the stash. You are still doing really well with all your stitching metrics. I had to shake my head at the story of the soup cozies. Hope you’ve had a great week on the stitching front.

It’s amazing how some people interpret things they read. Nope, none of your readers will misinterpret how to use a soup cozy. I should put clean up cutting table on my goals list but I think I’d need to work on it all day all week and I’d miss the sewing part of the week!

LOL!!! Bonnie!!! I think it would take me more than a week to clean up my sewing space! The 30 minutes a week (which I do diligently) doesn’t put much of a dent in the mess I make the rest of the week!!!

Awww bless that quilter’s heart, but ‘m cringing thinking about eating soup out of a cozy. Oh that fabric you bought – I would too! The Nutcracker and bird panel look interesting. Hope you have a great week!

That’s so funny! Your projects came out very nicely! I’m also joining in, but am barely prepping kits this week.
Your baby blue block is so pretty! Love those stars!
Your purchased fabrics reminded me of a LeeAnna, a sweet blogger at “Not Afraid of Color”. Beautiful choices!
Your retreat bag really stood out to me. Great pattern!
Take good care!

Oh my goodness, you made me laugh when I read about the leaking soup bowl cozy. I have a stack of fun fabrics here at home to make a bunch of bowl cozies to gift friends. Winter is almost here which means it’s soup season. Enjoy your week 🙂

Glad I made you laugh, Anorina! Can’t wait to see your bowl cozies! Your winter means that our summer is on the way … so not a lot of soup here! 🙂

True, not a lot of summer soups… but they can always be used for bowls of ice-cream 😉
