Did you decide to join us with PHD in 2023???
Are you determined to finish a bunch of UFOs and to NOT increase the number of quilts or projects on your UFO list???
Congratulations on making that choice!!!
Do you?
Yes, we have to Celebrate the little things …
- like finally choosing which fabric to use
- making the first cut into that fabric that you weren’t sure you ever wanted to cut
- sewing the first seam on a quilt
- choosing how to quilt the quilt
- putting the binding on a quilt
- and many many more …
Do you remember at June’s PHD report, I said, “As I was writing this … I decided to pull out the UFO I was thinking of … It’s this Amish panel that I cut apart and added sashing. I just need to add borders, sandwich it, quilt and bind it and I can call it done.”
Well, it took almost the WHOLE month to get that done!!!
- Celebration #1: I did get the borders on last week
- #2: I got it sandwiched the following day
- #3: I spent 3 days quilting it, being encouraged by my sister as we zoom sewed
- #4: I finally got the binding done on Sunday!!!
So yes, I’m celebrating that this UFO is done, done, DONE!!! And, my granddog is inspecting it!
Here’s a picture of me quilting it on my domestic machine (Janome M7) and a close up of the free motion quilting.
Now this quilt will go on one of the twin beds in one of the spare rooms. It’s relative has been on the other bed since it was finished 2 years ago!! Different panels, same sort-of theme.
As you work towards finishing your PHd in 2023, make sure you celebrate the little things! Each one of those little things is progress to completing those UFOs!
My Tally Sheets
I finished lots this month, but most of them I can’t show you until later! Sorry! The pictures below show the trivet and the picnic tote.
Here’s my tally sheet:
If you want to keep track of your own progress, please feel free to download the 2023 Template.
Here’s my Task Sheet of my UFOs. This helps me keep track of what I’ve accomplished and what I need to do.

My oldest UFO was started during Desert Storm, that was 1990! This summer I dug it out, added an inner border then an outer border and now it is awaiting quilting by card: someone with a long arm machine. Yesterday I bought solids to finally finish one that has also been languishing, an Amish inspired quilt, still deciding on queen or king, depending on who I decide will get it. It too just needed final borders.

Oh, Jean, your oldest UFO is ALMOST done! Once it’s long-armed, all you’ll need to do is add the binding! Yay for you!!! And it sounds as if the Amish inspired quilt will soon be inching towards the finish line as well!!! Great progress to celebrate!

Congrats on finishing off that UFO! It’s such a great feeling to get the older ones that have been hanging around for a while off the list.

Congrats on your finish! Yes, sometimes it takes us a whole month when it was a pretty easy finish. You did a lot of custom quilting, so that always takes more time!

Thanks, Kathleen! Yes, custom quilting does take longer … but once I figured out what I was doing, it was pretty quick. đŸ™‚

I really like that Amish quilt and am so impressed by the quilting on a regular machine. The barns quilt is gorgeous too.
