For the SAHRR ’24, I am using Island Batik fabrics: a 10″ stack of Limerick in addition to “Teal” and “Egg Shell.”
My centre block shows the Teal and Egg Shell. It’s an elongated Churn Dash.
- The Centre block is 4 1/2” x 8 1/2” and will finish at 4″ x 8″ in the finished quilt
- The 4 half square triangles are 2 1/2” squares and will finish at 2″
- The top, bottom and sides were a 1 1/2” strip of Teal and 1 1/2” strip of Egg Shell. After the strips were sewn, 2 strips were cut at 4 1/2” and 2 strips were cut at 8 1/2“.
I initially started with the above block, but changed my mind and added a neutral border (2 1/2“) to it.
January 15: I am hosting the first linky party and you can see them all at the Link Party below.

I love your Center Block Gail. Churn Dashes in any form is one of my all time favourites. I managed to get my post linked up in time this week in spite of getting home at 11:00 pm from the fundraiser! 🤭

In your intro post (comments are now closed) some of your links are wrong. When I try to click on Brenda, Anja’s blog comes up. When I click on Kathleen McMusing, Dogwood comes up (again). I am trying to follow all of these blogs, since I’m in a Round Robin with one of my guilds this year (ideas always help). Please send me the link to Kathleen’s blog and correct the links for others that might want to follow these blogs. Thanks.

Hi Cheryl,
Sorry about that. I’ve already fixed the links twice, but wordpress keeps reverting to the older ones. Brenda’s is: https://songbirddesigns.blog/ and Kathleen’s is: https://kathleenmcmusing.com/ I have corrected it AGAIN. so hopefully it works this time!

Hi Gail! Love your center block. I had a similar beginning one year . . . but I’ll bet our finished quilts will not resemble each other. Not one bit! Can’t wait to see. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne,
I knew I’d borrowed the idea of an elongated churn dash from somewhere … so thank you!! And since the rounds are all different, it won’t resemble each other at all!!
HUGS …

What an excellent choice for the center block! I prefer a rectangle quilt so this will be the ticket! Exciting fabric, too!

Thank you!! I don’t mind square quilts, but a rectangle makes so much more sense when it’s a lap or couch quilt! 🙂
