UFO: Labyrinth

I was happily working away on my Labyrinth quilt while I was at the retreat.  When the quilting was done, I, as normal, trimmed off the batting and extra backing.  The there was a HUGE loud swear word that came out of my mouth.  I had somehow gotten a corner of the quilt under what I was trimming and I cleanly sliced a wedge about 2″ x 7″ out of a corner (sorry, no picture) … GROAN … A lot of people came to my rescue and provided me with a ton of suggestions … ♥ quilting friends ♥ calmed me down and gave me viable solutions.  I hand stitched the wedge into place.  You can’t see it in the border, but it does show on the back.  One suggested I add an additional label over the wedge once I know who it will be gifted to.  I am just very thankful that it was in a corner and not in the middle of the quilt!  Here’s a picture of the finished quilt, followed by close-ups of the quilting:

IMG_1215Benartex had a contest on Facebook and I entered a quilt that I had made years ago with their fabric.  No, I didn’t win.  I didn’t even come in the top half.  But that’s OK.  Just for entering, I received a very cute charm pack.  It’s called “A Moose for Christmas.”  It’s in the process of becoming a table runner.  This is the first design / fabric placement layout … there’s likely to be many more before I start sewing it together.  It’s fun to work with these fabrics because they are  so very cute!  And the colours suit me and my house.

broken wagon

I fell off my fabric diet wagon this weekend.  In fact, the wagon broke.

I went into one store and managed to leave with only buying a few notions.  But the 2nd store, Needle & I, I went into buy micro brushes.  They are intended for applying IMG_1216adhesives etc.  but they are fantastic for cleaning your machine.   They were on sale … so was some fabric and I looked at the fabric and quickly looked away.  And then I was chatting with the gals in the shop and I looked some more and then the wagon broke!   In my defence, the neutral fabric is for backing a quilt!  The colour is not true in the picture.  The top fabric is actually a beige/cream and the bottom is a pretty blue.  A VERY pretty blue.  A lovely lovely blue.  Did you know that blue is my favourite colour? unknown-jpg

  2. Oh my gosh, that’s awful. My stomach turned over just thinking about it. So glad you were able to save it, and thank goodness it wasn’t worse. The quilt is beautiful, and the rest of your retreat projects look fun.

  3. I went to a retreat last week also, and I also fell of the wagon! But I’m back on the wagon, and am going to wear blinders the next time. I’m happy that you resolved your cutting booboo. I like the idea of putting a label there. Thanks for linking to Design Wall Monday, Judy

  5. It’s a gorgeous finished quilt. As for the accidental corner amputation, I’m glad it happened in the midst of quilter friends who were able to support you through the trauma and help with solutions. I honestly can’t see it in any of the photos you shared. It probably won’t be noticed at all by the recipient unless you gift it to a quilt judge! But if it bothers you, I like the idea of adding a second label. You could even embroider a quotation or Bible verse on the second label, something that would be meaningful to the gift occasion. It’s a truly beautiful quilt. Congratulations!

    • I showed the quilt at a trunk show this morning and people brought it to me after because they couldn’t find the “slice”. 🙂 I love the idea of a quotation or Bible verse! Thanks for the suggestion, Rebecca!

    I was all set to start our sympathetically and then I got to the wagon breaking sentence and picture. HAHAHAHA I’m still giggling about it – good thing I’m here alone in the office. OMG about trimming off a section of your quilt!! Holy moly. I would have just cried. Thankfully it happened at retreat with plenty of friends to help and offer support. You would never know at all from your beautiful pictures! Wow – it is gorgeous and your quilting is spot on. Your new table runner from FREE fabric is great, or it will be when finished. Sorry you didn’t win, but you can still enjoy the spoils from entering. ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Beautiful pattern and quilting. Feel for you with the chopping, but glad you were surrounded by helpful advisers. Something often a recipient isn’t even aware of, they just see the wonderful gift.

  8. The quilting is stunning Gail! I love how you mixed straight lines with the feathers. Feathers are sew addictive!
    I really like the pattern with the colours you chose too. Sew pretty!

    • Thanks, Terry! It was a kit from Heart & Soul in Grand Forks. The owner used to live in Fort St James. She is awesome with colours! Although, I must admit, I did change one of the colours. It was a fun quilt to quilt!

  9. Once I whacked off the bottom few inches of a quilt top. It was under the backing when I was cutting it to size. Never did that again. Your numbers are still good in spite of the buys. Beautiful quilt.
