Aunt Dinah’s Quilting Party

I have done a little sewing.  These 2 little zipper bags are done.  They are photographed on the back of my October, Island Batik Challenge … which is still in progress.  And all I can show you is the back …

Aunt Dinah’s Quilting Party

When I was in England, my sister & I visited a few cousins of my moms.  Judith & her husband, Dennis,  found out that I was a quilter.  Dennis (who is around 90 years young) mentioned a song about quilting.  He graciously sang it for me and allowed me to tape his singing.  I was thrilled!  (Sorry, the camera did an automatic switch to sideways …)

The song was first published in 1850 in the US.  And, I heard it for the first time in England!  How special is that?

Edit:  That is Judith, Dennis’s wife who joins in the chorus.  Lovely together, aren’t they?

  2. The little zipper bags are so cute! How very cool that Dennis and Judith performed a quilting song for you. And I can see why that beautiful butterfly quilt got you featured! Thanks for linking up to Creative Compulsions.

  3. Love the song! So sweet to hear them both on the chorus. You are so lucky to visit them and to hear the song. Thanks for sharing it on Wednesday Wait Loss.

  4. Oh how darling and sweet that video is. It’s so wonderful you got them both singing. What a precious thing to have. I have heard the song sung before, but never so sweetly. =) What a beautiful butterfly quilt that is, too.

  5. Thanks for the video of Dennis singing the quilting song! How special! I’ve never heard that before. It ought to be every guild’s theme song. 🙂

  6. Hi Gail! That video!!! It’s priceless – I love it and I love Dennis. I’m guessing that is Judith joining in at the end? Your bags turned out great – I love that map fabric. And what?!! I didn’t know you were joining in the linky party. Thanks for linking up. I appreciate it very much. (The link you shared doesn’t seem to work though.) I think your list looks quite doable for the week, and I’m looking forward to seeing your October IBA project. ~smile~ Roseanne

    • I know … I felt very privileged that Dennis sang the song for me! It was a great honour to sit and listen to him (with Judith joining in!)
Well, I hope I can tackle my list! Time will tell! 🙂
You will see my October challenge in due time! Like – in October! 🙂
      Happy Quilting! 🙂
