A bunch of us got together to paint some barn quilts. Our host’s husband (George) very kindly prepped all of the 2′ x 2′ squares for us. He even primed them and sanded them!!
Each of us picked a different pattern! It was fun to see the variety! We started out, using a pencil and marking our boards in grids. Then the painter’s tape was applied and the painting began!
Robin had taken a class, but the rest of us relied on Youtube! (grin!)
I forgot to take my phone, so the credit for these pictures goes to Robin, Judy and Linda!

Most of us used acrylic paints. I bought mine at Michaels. My husband coated it with a varathane.
Here it is outside, waiting to be hung up …

One who sleeps under a quilt is covered by LOVE!
Happy Quilting!

Terrific job Gail! It turned out just beautiful. It’s nice to see you working away with your friends too instead of on the other side of the camera. 🙂

What fun! I’ve done a smaller one. It hangs just outside the door to my sewing room. Yours is really pretty!

Thank you Sandy! It was fun to paint instead of sewing! However, I must admit sewing is easier! 🙂

What fun to make these with friends…and how nice to have a master “prepper” get all the boards ready. That is the piece that would put me off a bit….but now I am thinking about maybe my husband would help me….

If your hubby (or the hardware store) can cut the plywood into 2′ squares, it would be easy to prime it, sand it, and re-prime it … then you’re good to go! 🙂

What a fun day! That was awfully nice of Linda’s hubby to get things ready for you all. One of my friends told me to keep barn quilts nice if hung outside that one should use marine lacquer (?) to seal it. I don’t know for sure, just passing on this info. Your block is gorgeous!

Marine lacquer is probably a great idea! I’ll have to tell my friends! 🙂

This is very fun. My favorite is the shadowed spools in primary colors plus green.

It was fun! Amy made the spools quilt to be in her sewing room! Perfect, eh?

They are all spectacular! Someday I would love to make one. Did you use plywood?

Yes, It is plywood … good one side … primed … painted with acrylic paints and verathaned.

What fun! I like your block choice best followed by the four spools – they actually look like little windows.

Hi Dana!
It was fun to do! Perhaps it’s something we could consider at OTR retreat in the spring? Something to think about!
