Island Batik
If you want to see the newest fabric and patterns from Island Batik … go to the Spring and Summer 2019 Catalog. Be prepared for an online magazine full of the most beautiful fabric and tons of patterns for wonderful quilts and tuffets, clothing and other projects.
I received these Aurifil threads in the mail today! The dark purple is 40 wt, blue is 12 wt and the pink is 28 wt. Very pretty!!! I need to use all 3 weights in an upcoming Island Batik Challenge.
What will I do? I’m not sure. I haven’t used 12 wt or 28 wt thread before. I used 40 wt once on a quilt. It will be fun to come up with something that uses all 3 weights of thread!
What I’ve been working on:
Placemats!
If you recall (ha! totally not expected!), in November, I bought this fabric while at a retreat. You can see the post HERE.
This is 2 yards of fabric … divided into 8 fat quarters. I wanted more than 8 placemats, so I added in some of my stash. Once it was all cut up and sewn together, I ended up with 13 placemats. No problem, some of them will do double duty as hot plate holders in the middle of the table.
I used up a lot of left-over pieces of Hobbs 80/20 batting. It’s a perfect weight for placemats!
When I laid them down to take a picture, I thought, “That’s the equivalent of a lap sized quilt, with tons of extra binding!
I must admit, it does feel good to get rid of some of my stash
PHD projects are slowly getting done. Here are my 3 finishes for 2019.
Here’s the March Report for Participants
Kate @ Life in Pieces has a beautiful March finish!!! If you love star quilts – you simply must go check it out!
Tish @ Tish’s Adventures in Wonderland shows her “bundle Buster” quilt … so cute, a quick and easy finish. She also shows how straight line quilting can look fantastic!
Emily @ The Darling Dogwood finished a super cute fish pillow. It is a gift that complements a awesome elephant quilt!
Deana @ Dream Worthy Quilts has a goal tracker on the right side bar. She completed her “Snow Globe” quilt! WOW!!! The quilting is pretty spectacular!
Elizabeth @ Applique and … is giving herself permission to relax and enjoy the process! In the meantime, she has some finishes – both quilting and knitting!
Sharon @ Adventures in Fiber has not posted any quilty posts for March.
Happy Quilting!
Gail

Hello Gail,
These are lovely – matching, but all slightly different. I can imagine different members of the family settling on a particular one as their own.
Thank you for linking up with Free Motion Mavericks!

I have the same problem. Not sure what I’m going to make with the threads I got, but they sure are pretty! I too look forward to the challenge of using new thread weights. Thanks for linking up your PHD report to Wednesday Wait Loss. You’re doing great this year!

Thanks, Jennifer! I guess IB knows what they are talking about when they say that we have monthly challenges! 🙂

Hi Gail! Oooh, those threads look so pretty. I’ve never used those weights of thread before for quilting. 12 wt sounds like it is almost a floss-like thickness. I can’t wait to see what you come up with. And those placemats look divine and very Spring-like. ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne,
I agree, the threads are very pretty! I’ll be using them in an Island Batik Challenge … we HAVE to use them … so I’ll be forced out of my comfort zone … which is fun and exciting for me! 🙂
I fell in love with the spring/summer like fabric and that’s what forced me to buy it! I couldn’t resist!
Happy Quilting, my friend! 🙂

I have that deep dark purple thread too, and I’m just dying to try it on something — not sure what yet!
