Sunday Summary: February 8

LOL!!!

This is the Laundry Basket Mystery quilt that I made, mostly in the fall. You can get all the clues from Laundry Basket Quilts, the intro is HERE. If you look closely, you’ll see that I made a few changes. First, I did not do the star as directed, I did a friendship star instead. Second, I did not do all the rounds as directed. The original quilt is to finish at 90″ square, mine is lap size, finishing at 66″ squarae.

There is a mixture of ruler quilting and free motion. Here are a couple of close-up pictures. I was going to do an all-over quilting pattern, but when I sat down at the machine, rulers called out to me. And, since I love the actual quilting, I did what the quilt told me to do!

Quilt Stats:

  • Size: 66″ square
  • Block size: mostly 6″ x 6″
  • Fabric:  “Judie Rothermel Presents Textiles inspired by the Old Sturbridge Village Collection for Marcus Brothers Textiles, Inc.” It was a fat quarter pack bought years and years and years ago at a quilt store in Stanwood Washington.
  • Hobbs Batting: Heirloom 80/20
  • Thread:
    • Piecing: Aurifil 2600 Dove Grey
    • Quilting: Glide: Sand Dune
  • Silly Moon Rulers: Rocket, Beanie
  • Schmetz Needles: Universal 80/12
  • Oliso Iron

Kate, from Life in Pieces, is hosting “Stitching Stuff” and the goal is to sew for at least 15 minutes a day. I use Kate’s guideline, but my personal goal is to sew for 30 minutes a day. On those “blah” days, it does motivate me to sit at my machine and 30 minutes often turns into several hours. Thank you Kate for the motivation!

Oh, it is so very nice to be sewing each and every day!

Quilting Projects:

Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!

No shopping so far this year!

The Arabesque quilt used 6 yards from my stash.

  • Fabric used this week: 8 yards
  • Fabric Used in 2026:     22 yards (6 yards from non-Island Batik)
  • Fabric Added in the last week: 0 yards
  • Fabric Added this year:   0 yards
  • Net Fabric used:             22 yards
