Beautiful Fall Days

It is beautiful right now on the West coast of Canada.  Cool crisp nights, some morning fog, and sun in the afternoon.  It’s hard, very hard to stay inside and quilt when it is so nice outside!

However, I have been working with digitizing software.  It’s Artistic-Digitizer_500.jpgactually fun!  A simple project that I have been working on is taking an element from the fabric in the quilt, making a simple outline and stitching it out.

It worked great on my sample, (first picture), but when I tried to put it on the quilt, it wouldn’t line up right: see the “line” between the ears?”  I have a very small machine and I don’t think it was intended for quilting.  I will finish the quilt on a bigger machine at work.

More Quilting

IMG_1728While I’m waiting to finish the hexi quilt at work, I’ve started quilting on a giraffe quilt that I started in April at a retreat.  My original intent was to digitize one of the giraffe’s in the quilt.  However, I think by quilting a giraffe in each block, it would take away from the awesomeness of these beautiful giraffes.

Sew … this quilt will be free motion quilted …

Piecing

Fire burst is being assembled.

Summary:  No UFOs finished in October, so I still have 4 UFOs to complete by the end of the year.  However, I did finish 2 of my Sept. 2018 starts, “Wonky Log Cabin” and “Christmas ?” (which I’ll show you closer to Christmas.) That leaves me with 2 Starts in 2018 to complete … Doable?  I certainly hope so!

Stash Report

Wonky Log Cabin is finished …   This used 7 1/4 yards of fabric.  You can see more about this quilt HERE and HERE.img_24431.jpg

  • Fabric Used this week:  7.25 yards
  • Fabric Used this year:    222.85 yards
  • Fabric Added this Week:  0 yard
  • Fabric Added this Year:  77.3  yards

Happy Quilting!

  3. It’s so good to see Fireburst gathering speed and waiting to make its big explosion to finished! No matter what you decide to quilt on the giraffe quilt it will be amazing. That is really cool fabric!

  4. Fireburst is looking good, and I’m looking forward to seeing it all together! Love that green border/sashing on the giraffe quilt too. I think you’re right about stitching the giraffes, the herd would just get too big! LOL Thanks for linking to MCM!

    • Hi Beth … I’m excited to put Fireburst together!
And yes, we don’t want herds of giraffes where you wouldn’t be able to see the individual ones!
      Happy Cooking and Quilting! 🙂

  6. It’s impressive that you are going to finish everything you started this year and not add any new UFOs AND how many UFOs you finished. I’d go with enjoying the weather while you can. Winter is just around the corner.

    • Hi Donna,
I’m determined to NOT add to my UFO list. Unfortunately, when I’m searching for something, I occasionally come across ANOTHER UFO … groan … I will add them to my list at the beginning of 2019 … but I want to have those UFOs gone, gone, gone …
Thank you for hosting the Sunday Stash … it’s certainly helped to curb my needless fabric buying!
      Happy Quilting & Stitching! 🙂
