Another UFO is DONE!!!

Irish Snails is done!  quilted and bound.  Unfortunately, it’s raining buckets outside and I took this picture with the quilt on the bed and I stood on a chair with the phone way above my head.  Hopefully, it will be nice outside before it’s gifted and I can get a good picture of the whole quilt, a good close-up and one of the back.

The pattern is available from Yellow House Quilter

Good Fortune Mystery: by Bonnie Hunter.

Part 3 came out this week … Last week, Cynthia Brunz, of Quilting is More Fun than Housework, suggested I use a shade of purple.  My purple stash is limited, but I went with her suggestion.  I have a small number done and the rest is cut out and ready to sew.   By the way: I always start giggling when I read the name of Cynthia’s blog … who can resist following a blog where priorities are in order?  Not me!

If you want to see the progress of other’s working on the mystery – click HERE.

IMG_2635Decided to start with this baby quilt.  I wanted a quick finish.

I did digitize the fox on the white blocks.  That was a lot of fun to do.  But … I’m new to digitizing and new to quilting with my embroidery machine … so there is a lot of learning happening:

  • the fox would have shown up better if I had used a different stitch instead of a single one
  • a different colour would have highlighted the fox.

However, it was an improvement over my first attempt and you can read about it HERE. I know at that time, I said I would finish it at work … that didn’t happen … I ended up buying a bigger embroidery machine and quilted all the foxes at home.

Only the fox was quilted with the embroidery machine.  I’m doing a small stipple around the fox – hoping to make it “pop” more and a simple loop-d-loop in the other blocks.

  2. Congrats on a finish! The weather hasn’t been cooperating for anyone as far as picture taking is going. Hopefully you will have a sunny day very soon. Love the purples in the mystery quilt. I’ve never tried a Bonnie Hunter one. All those little small pieces seem intimidating 🙂

    • Hi Tish,
Doing a Bonnie Hunter mystery is a great learning experience. I have a friend that just does half of the clues and she always ends up with a nice lap-sized quilt … something to think about.
Sewing the “small pieces” makes sewing large ones EASY!
Hugs and Happy Quilting and Designing! 🙂

  3. Fabulous finish! You do much better with the phone camera high over your head while standing on a chair than I do. LOL I usually can’t get it even close to straight, no matter how much I adjust it. It’s a gorgeous quilt.

    • Hi Cynthia!
      Thank you for suggesting purple!!!!
I do hope you’re inspired to at least work on a UFO, even if you don’t finish it! Although finishing UFOs and marking them on the list is such a great feeling!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

    • Hi Roseanne …
Yes, there are 3 weeks left in the year … that doesn’t mean that I have 3 weeks of sewing time! 😦
However, I only have to work 3 days this week and run all over the city on the days I’m not working, but I’m hoping to get at least one finished this week and get started on the last one!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  4. Congratulations on another finish Gail! Things are getting down to the wire…
I know I’m feeling the pressure too. I have almost finished the quilting on my last PHD project – just the borders to quilt. But between now and the end of the year I have two birthdays and several hand made projects to make for Christmas gifts. Oh, and I suppose I need to remember to do some baking and get out and shop!! 😳
Your Irish snails quilt is beautiful! I really like the colours in it. It looks like you are enjoying the digitized quilting..never too late to add another feature to your quilting.
    Cheers coz!
