I have no finishes this week … except for this one mask. My daughter asked me to make it for a coworker of hers … his nick-name is Plant Dad … so, via messenger, we picked out the fabric and she asked that Plant Dad be stitched in their company’s pink colour. Apparently he said, “I really love this.”
Design Wall
Piecing:
Masks: lots in progress. I started serging the ties – much easier!!! And a friend gave me some florist wire – much nicer for the nose & should hold up better than pipe cleaners!
Pillow Cases: Some in progress … for a guild charity … It was an opportunity to go through my stash and pick out some fabric …
Quilting:
The blue round robin is ready to quilt … machine set up, bobbins wound …
TO DO

Plant Dad will be the bees knees at work now! Looks like you had some pretty good progress, and while not official finishes, these improvement tweaks take time and pay dividends later. Thanks for linking up with the Chameleon’s Colour & Inspiration party!

Thanks, Dione!
Plant Dad is working from home … but many places are starting to require masks to shop in their stores … so he’s good to go!
Thanks for hosting Chameleon’s Colour & Inspiration Party! 🙂

I’ve not been able to leave comments the last few weeks, so I’ve logged via my Facebook account to see if that works. You’ve done really well on the stitching time and your stash numbers look great. Happy stitching this week.

I love that you embroidered his nickname on the mask – I might have to copy that! 🙂 And your round robin quilt is so pretty. I’m looking forward to seeing it quilted. Thanks for linking to MCM!

Serging the ties on the masks are a great idea! I don’t have a serger but I have some overlock stitches on my machine. What kind of strips are you using, meaning how many times are they folded over? I’ve been making my own binding but don’t have a bias-tape maker, so I’m using a super fancy jig of a pin on my ironing board. If this is just one fold, that may actually be better than what I’ve been doing. Love the personalized mask!

Hi Emily!
I had cut the ties at 1 1/4″ and was double folding them … When I started serving, I just pressed them in half and then cut (with the serger) down to about 3/8″ finished size. This should work with your overlock stitches. Let me know how it works out!
Happy quilting! 🙂

Good idea to serge the ties…great reason for me to pull out my serger 🙂 Your round robin quilt is lovely!

Thanks, Karla!
I figured there had to be an easier way than folding it over twice and burning my fingers!

You have a good week planned, and I’ll bet you get it all done. If not, no big deal, right?! Will be fun to see you quilt the medallion quilt!

Thanks, Wendy!
I’ve found that I need to put less expectation on what I get done! And you are so right … if it doesn’t get done, no big deal!
Hopefully, you will see the finished quilt later this week … maybe! 🙂
Happy Quilting! 🙂

I like the idea of serging the ties for the masks. When I make pillowcases, I use my serger for the seams rather than doing the way I learned -i.e. french seams.

Hi Gene!
For the pillowcases, I often serge the seam prior to the Fr. seam … that way there are no spare threads sticking through the finished seam!

Pillowcases are good stash busters, especially a big pile like that!

They sure are! It should increase the amount of fabric used! And, it’s for a good cause! 🙂

Hi Gail! That is so cool that you stitched Plant Dad on his mask. How many bobbins do you prepare before you start quilting? Just curious! I always prepare at least two although it usually takes three no matter what pattern I’m quilting. Good job on your list and good luck this week. Thanks in advance for linking up. ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne!
I often prepare 4 or 5 … up to 8 if it’s a large quilt. I know it’s silly, but I hate spending the time to unthread the machine and wind a bobbin and then re-thread … As well, I have a container that holds bobbins for the cones that I use for quilting … it keeps things organized and occasionally, I don’t have to wind many bobbins …
Thanks for hosting “To Do”!
Happy Quilting! 🙂
