In the past week, I was away at a nursing reunion. How can it be over 50 years since we graduated? Yes, a lot of water has gone under the bridge, but 50 years? really? 10 of us met at a resort on Vancouver Island and had a blast!!!
OH MY!!! talk about a lot of belly laughs … lots of reminiscing … remember when the streakers ran through the residence? I do, but I didn’t see them … but the house-mother was asked by the police to describe them … all she could say was that one of them was wearing a tie and she described the tie … (I hope you’re giggling now!). Then my roommate from 2nd year and her hubby came to the mainland for a few days … lots of visiting and more story telling! We definitely had a fantastic time!
Stitching Stuff

Kate, from Life in Pieces, is hosting “Stitching Stuff” and the goal is to sew for at least 15 minutes a day. I use Kate’s guideline, but my personal goal is to sew for 30 minutes a day. On those “blah” days, it does motivate me to sit at my machine and 30 minutes often turns into several hours. Thank you Kate for the motivation!
I sew when I can, but it definitely isn’t every day!

Sunday Stash

Donna at Quilt Paint Create hosts a weekly linky party where you can display your stash numbers. This has really kept my stash from growing (somewhat!) Before I buy anything, I am always mindful of the fact that I need to report it on my blog … That sometimes stops me in my tracks!
- Fabric used this week: 0 yards
- Fabric Used in 2026: 103 yards (69.5 yards from non-Island Batik)
- Fabric Added in the last week: 0 yards
- Fabric Added this year: 13 yards

Rainbow Scrap Challenge

Rainbow Scrap Challenge: I have 3 purple blocks completed and another in my “Leaders and Enders” pile.

A New Squirrel
For those of you that do not know, a squirrel is any project that distracts from what you are already working on. They are the tempting projects that you do not need … but are too tempting to resist!
This Squirrel starts on September 28. Each block will be available for free for 2 weeks and if you miss a block, you will need to pay for it! You can access the info about the quilt HERE. I have made several of Denise’s designs and have loved each and every one!
Are you going to join me?

Maybe a 2nd Squirrel
I’m considering it … but I’m not positive I’m going to do it …
It’s Allison Glass’s Color Study … The information is HERE. It’s free … It’s 1 block a week, studying colour … I think I would learn a LOT!

Monthly Colour Challenge

No change. Waiting for directions for October. And each of the blocks so far this year:

This is a Sew-a-long by Red Boot Quilt Company. I’m using scraps of Island Batik (Lumin Fabrics). Each of the blocks have trapunto and the appliqué is adhered with a small zig-zag stitch.
Block #11 is done … it’s a Magpie or Pee-Wee and she said to make it a bird that visits your yard. I thought about a stellar jay, but it’s blue and there is already a lot of blue in the quilt, so I just made it similar to the Magpie.

Marigold Mystery

You can access the clues HERE. And if you’re not a ‘mystery’ person, you can actually take a sneak peek at what the quilt will look like.
No change. Need to make the September blocks.

That bird block is so cute! You have a lot of fun things going on, and so many tempting sew alongs! I’m still grinning about describing the tie – LOLOLOL!

Thanks, Wendy. If you can imagine, the house mothers were older – grandma types, that guarded the door and managed the phones. I laugh at her describing the tie!

So glad you got to get to enjoy old friendships. Sounds like you had a very interesting time of it in nursing school. Your Toni blocks are such fun. Enjoy starting a new squirrel. I’ve resisted starting something I hadn’t planned to start since January. Fingers crossed I get a few more quilts off the UFO list before I get too tempted. I’ll enjoy watching your squirrels come together.

Hi Kate!
Yes, we had a lot of fun in nursing school! Imagine 150 gals all living together in the dorm, sharing 1 black and white TV, a house mother guarding the entrance to the residence, 3 phones to share … but we made it work!
I will have fun with my squirrels!!
I admire you for not starting any more projects since January!! 👏 👏 👏. Well done!

There really is nothing better than good belly laughter! I’m so glad you were able to get 10 of you together for the reunion. And oh my gosh – that streaking story might beat anything I can remember from my college days! And good luck resisting the squirrels, I’ve been chasing a few and really need to buckle back in to get some quilting done and finish a project myself.
