The Retreat
Oh … what fun! Here’s a slideshow of some of the creations … Enjoy! Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of what everyone was working on … but here’s a few …
Here’s a summary:
- Lots of laughing!
- Lots of sewing!
- Some ripping
- Some cutting
- Some “Yeah, it’s done!”
- Tons of talking
- Some pressing
- Lots of helping each other
- Strip poker (you play with fabric and your clothes stay on!)
- Some, “oh no!”
- Scavenger Hunt
- Occasionally heard, “where did I put my ruler / pins/ stitch ripper/ thread / scissors?” Or “I could have sworn I made enough blocks …”
- Door Prizes
- Gift exchange
If you’ve never been to a retreat – it’s a great experience! The scavenger hunt grouped the participants into teams of 2 and they were given a time limit and away they went on the hunt. One of the prizes went to the team that had the most originality! Oh my … They made their own plastic comb out of a plastic bag and the best was the tomato or fruit pin cushion … they grabbed a grape from the fridge and stuck a pin in it. 🙂
And the gift exchange … I forgot to take a picture of the gift I made. But I got to steal these wonderful fabric baskets and bring them home! Please note: Stealing was part of the gift exchange! 🙂
Summary: Only 3, yes THREE UFOs to finish and the surprise baby quilt to do for my PHD in 2018!
Design Wall
It’s a baby gift and I’ll share it once it’s been gifted.
Stash Report
Scrappy Blue Ivan’s Diamonds is done! It used 10.5 yards …
BUT … there was a little bit of shopping at the retreat … um … just a little … The first picture (provided WordPress doesn’t move them around on me) is 2 yards of fabric that contains 8 fat quarters. I thought it was just sew cute. I have not idea what I might do with it … spring placemats? The 2nd picture is a roll of cork … I’m thinking that this may become another “Necessary Clutch.” The 3rd picture is 3 fat quarters that I did NOT buy, They were part of the gifts from the retreat fairy. The last picture is a charm pack that I won in a draw! All in all these add up to about 4 yards of fabric … Now … I want you to remember that I only bought some of this!
- Fabric Used this week: 10.5 yards
- Fabric Used this year: 248.85 yards
- Fabric Added this Week:
4 yardEdit: just found another fat 1/4 that was in a gift bag … so this amount should be 4.25 yards - Fabric Added this Year:
81.3 yards81.55 yards - Net Fabric Used for 2018:
167.55 yards167.35 yards
Happy Quilting!

Gifts and wins should not count! =) Your retreat looks like great fun. I look forward to seeing the diamonds quilt in a larger size – or maybe you posted it before? I’ll go look.

The retreat was a LOT of fun!
The diamonds quilt is 60 x 76″ … I’ve done smaller, but not larger.
Happy Quilting! 🙂

I do! Each of the ladies brings their own talents. A few are very experienced and are extremely talented! It is fun to watch their process and see it progress as the days go by!

Hi Gail! The fun you had just oozes off the page! HAHA – strip poker. That one bullet point in your summary raised an eyebrow briefly, but that is their fabric name so what else would you call poker played with strips of fabric??!! Happy Monday to you! ~smile~ Roseanne

Hi Roseanne,
I figured “strip poker” would get people’s attention … it’s played with dice “L, R, C, dot” on them … you roll 3 dice, the dot means you keep a strip, L – pass to the left, R – pass to the right, C – place in centre. you go around the circle, rolling the dice, if you have 2 strips left, you roll 2 die. The one person that remains with a strip, wins the lot! Fun!
One year, a friend of mine won black on white strips, another lady won white on black strips … they divided them up and my friend added some red and made a fantastic quilt! It was really really nice!
Happy Quilting! 🙂
