52 x 52, Friday’s Finish

I finally finished my “52 Blocks in 52 Weeks.”  The quilt blocks were released weekly by Canadian Quilter’s Association designed by Jackie White.  Each block is unique and finishes at 6 ½” square.  Or should I say, each block is suppose to finish at 6 ½” square?  Most of mine did and I fudged with the rest.  I did not trim down any blocks.

Every single piece of fabric came from my stash. This was a picture of the bag of scraps that I dug into for each of the blocks … along with a constant light that I’d had for years.img_2976

Here are pictures of portions of the quilt throughout the past year:

The sashing and cornerstones and the backing were all from stash as well.  The backing was left over from backing another quilt and with some creative piecing – it became large enough!IMG_6242.jpeg

My husband loves this quilt and when I suggested going to Campbell Valley for a photo shoot, he was all over it!  And, then, he figured we needed some beach shots as well, so we went to Crescent Beach.  We were forest bathing in the filtered sunshine, but it had gotten cloudy by the time we made it to the beach.image

Graffiti quilting seamed very appropriate for a quilt with over 52 different blocks!  I used Hobbs 80/20 batting and the quilt was quilted with a CanSew grey thread. The following pictures show some of the quilting, with the glorious crinkle / after washing look:IMG_6260.jpegIMG_6261.jpeg

  1. Hi Gail, that’s a really cool quilt! I like the graffiti quilting. It may be scrappy but the blocks and colours really play well together. Congrats on your finish and thanks for linking up to Free Motion Mavericks!

  2. What a beautiful quilt! How awesome to go to the beach for photos! Isn’t it great to use up scraps? Thanks for sharing on Wednesday Wait Loss.

    • Yes, it was great to go there! I love going for walks along the path, but the beach itself is not very barefoot friendly. 😦
Thanks for hosting Wednesday Wait Loss. 🙂

  3. Wow! It looks fantastic! And I never would have guessed it was a scrap quilt from the photo–your scraps are obviously much better coordinated than mine! Love the outdoor shots!

    • I just used blue scraps … that’s all … if the scrap had blue it it, it was good to go … any shade, tint or hue.
Thank you. We enjoyed getting outside for the walks and photo shoot!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  4. Congratulations on a great finish. I only got as far as downloading all the patterns and I really admire you for getting it all done. You chose two wonderful locations at which to get beauty shots of your amazing quilt. We especially love Campbell Valley Park. It never seems to get as busy as White Rock.

    • Thanks, KJ!!! There is one lady in our guild who posted her block Every. Single. Week. Usually on the day it came out. She was a great inspiration to me! (Thanks, Irene!)
I love going to local parks … just need to do it more!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  5. It is beautiful! All the blocks work so well together and the colors are gorgeous. I often have issues with blocks ending up the stated size, but we always come up with solutions to make it work!

    • LOL … there were times that I thought the same thing. However, when I was putting the blocks up on the design wall, there were a few that were taken out. They just didn’t go.
      Happy Quilting! 🙂

  6. Hi Gail! Happy Happy Friday with a fabulous finish. Yippee. And it’s a beauty and all made from stash fabrics. That must have made a good dent in your stash! ~smile~ Roseanne

    • Hi Roseanne,
I did use up quite a few scraps from the blue scrappy bag. Unfortunately, I have added other scraps to the bag … and it’s still overflowing!
Perhaps one day it’ll go down in size!
      Happy Quilting! 🙂
