Quick Machine Binding Tutorial

For awhile, I’ve been saying that I would post a tutorial for binding using your machine.  No hand sewing.  I’ve highlighted the “Quick Tips“.  Some of the steps will be familiar to you, some may be totally “what???” … sew … here goes:

Step 1: Cutting the Binding

Figure out the circumference of your quilt.  (Measure both sides of your quilt, multiply that number by 2),   Add 14 – 20″ to the circumference.  If you want – you can use this handy app from Robert Kaufman.

IMG_1287Decide on the width of your binding.  If there are points on the sides of the quilt that I don’t want to lose, I cut my binding at 2″.  If there isn’t, I cut it at 2 1/4″.  For this tutorial, I cut the binding at 2 1/2″ because it’s flannel on both sides and a little thicker than most quilts and I don’t want to have to fight with it.

IMG_1292Step 2: Joining the binding

Join binding into one long piece with a 45 degree angle.  You can mark it or “eyeball” it.  Chain each piece of binding to the next.

IMG_1294

Quick Tip #1:  Do NOT cut the chains apart (unless you want a huge tangled mess.)  Leave the chain joined together.  I know this is not the way most people do it – but try it!

IMG_1295

Quick Tip #2: Do NOT fold binding in half

Do NOT press the binding in half

Your quilt is about 1/16th of an inch thick.  By folding and pressing the binding in half – you are forcing the binding to fold in a position that is actually pulling it to one side.  It will naturally lie smoother if you do not press it in half.

Step 3:  Sewing the binding onto the quilt

Fold the binding in half (DO NOT press the binding).

Leave approximately 8-10″ of a tail on the binding.  Start attaching the binding to the BACK of the quilt. Use a ¼” seam.  Sew about 3″. Cut the thread.  Check to see where the fold lands on the front.  It should cover the stitching, but you don’t want a lot of extra binding with no batting in it.  On this quilt I moved the needle over to the left so it was a wide ¼” seam.  {Janome 6500 – needle position 3.0, using the ¼” foot}

Quick Tip #3: ***   It’s a good idea to put a pin in approximately 16″ from where you started so that when you sew around the quilt, you leave a good amount of space for joining the binding. ***

When approaching the corner, stop ¼” from the edge.  (First picture below). Cut the thread.

The middle picture shows me folding the binding up at a 45 degree angle.  Place a ruler on the side of the quilt and line the binding up along the ruler.  This will help to ensure a perfect 45 degree angle.  The last picture above, shows the binding folded down.  Begin sewing approx. 1/8″ from the end and sew to the next corner.

IMG_1304Quick Tip #4As you reach the joined edges of the strips, use a pair of scissors and trim at approximately ¼” from the seam.

Finger press the seam open (sometimes it helps to hold this in place with a pin)

Continue to sew binding on, stopping approximately 16″ from where you started.

Step 4: The final joining of the binding

Pin the original tail in placeIMG_1313

IMG_1310 Quick Tip #5Take a piece of binding and place the width of it over the tail – having ~ 1/8″ over.  (This helps the binding to be “tight” and not loose and sloppy when you sew it on the quilt.

You can measure this if you want … it’s the width of the binding, subtracting 1/8″

IMG_1311  Bring the left over binding down to the bottom of the overlapping width of binding.  Trim the left-over binding at the bottom edge.

Join the binding together with a 45 degree seam (as you did when originally joining the binding strips).  Finger press seam open and finish sewing the binding onto the quilt.

Step 5: Clipping the Corners

IMG_1320

Quick Tip #6:  On each of the corners, fold back the binding and clip the quilt top, batting and backing.  It’s a small clip, but it makes the world of difference when you are turning the corner of you binding!

***  Just be careful to not clip the binding  ***

Step 6: Press the Binding

IMG_1318Quick Tip #7: On the back side of the quilt, press the binding away from the quilt, ensuring that you do not press a fold in the binding.

Step 7: Glue the Binding in Place

I use Elmer’s School Glue (diluted 1:1 with water).   Start at a corner and on the right side of the corner (middle picture) run a stream of glue on the binding.  It tends to “bead up” as you can see in the picture.  Fold the binding over and iron in place.  IMG_1326

Ensure that you fold all of the corners in the same method. This will ensure that you don’t have a “bump” as you sew the binding down .

Step 8 Sewing the Binding onto the Front

With the binding glued into place, this step is simple, simple, simple!

You can use a variety of stitches to finish the binding.  When I first started sewing binding on by machine, I used a serpentine stitch.  It’s like a curvy zig-zag.  Other choices include a zigzag, a blanket stitch and a straight stitch or ??? Your choice.  IMG_1329

Step 9 Congratulate yourself – your binding is on and DONE!!!

Design Wall / Quilting

IMG_1262 I’ve started quilting my Carol Doak paper pieced quilt.  This is one of the quilts that was on top of my filing cabinet and I was reluctant to tackle them.  I made the pieced back and sandwiched it in early January.    I’m looking forward to having this UFO done!  So why am I FMQ stitch in the ditch?  Its so slow …  but then again, it’s what this quilt is calling me to do.

Fractured

I’m sewing with friends today!  YEAH!!!   I will be working on more of these blocks.  The pattern is “Fractured Paint Box” by Judy Niemeyer.   It’s a paper-pieced pattern that I’m doing without sewing on the papers. I started on this one in 2016.

PHD Update – Feb. 4, 2018

Well, as much fun as it was being at my sister’s.  I’m glad to be home.  It was -20 C and snowing when I left Edmonton.  +9 C and raining when I landed in Abbotsford! (Need I say more about that?)

My sister is working very hard on her physio.  It takes her about 5 hours a day to run through all the exercises and leg elevation ice treatments.  And she has hourly exercises as well.  She’s a busy gal!  I know that my sister will be well taken care of with me gone.  She has a friend (who is a quilter), that is willing to drive my sister to appointments – so now that she’s well on the way to recovery – it’s about all she needs now.

And the Super Bowl is on today.  I’m not a sports fan.  There will be eating and yelling downstairs, but I’ll be happily listening to the hum of my sewing machine.

Striped Retreat Bag (Large)

This was finished before I left my sisters.  I gifted it to her.  She then said, “why do I need to learn to quilt if you are going to give me everything I need?”  Ha!  She’ll catch the bug and be addicted pretty soon. Smiley Face Clip Art Free Download | Clipart library - Free Clipart

Necessary Clutch

The button is now on the Necessary Clutch.  I realize that I should have put the magnet in before I sewed the flap together.  Lesson learned.  Anyhow, my husband and I tried threading thread through under the magnet.  That did”t work.  So, he got out some epoxy glue … it seems to have done the trick.  It should hold since it can glue steel, glass, wood  and a million other things together.

PHD Update

So far this year, I have completed 7 UFOs.  That is way more than I expected by this time of year!  Now, I do realize that I took a lot of small projects to my sister’s – so progress will slow down now as I work on bigger projects.

PHD in 2018 Participants’ Progress

As I compiled the following list, I was thrilled and excited and overwhelmed by the progress that each participant has made.  You have all worked extremely hard!  Well done ladies!   Here’s Snoopy doing a Happy Dance in the snow!!

  • Terry has 3 quilts done!  Check it out @ Quilting a Legacy
  • Roseanne @ Homesewn by Us has her update for January posted
  • Elizabeth (Beth) has her list and goals updated on her blog Appliqué and ...
  • Kate @ Life in Pieces has complete her OMG for January.
  • Ann @ Laughing Gas Quilts has her list updated!  She’s hoping that she doesn’t get in trouble for changing a table runner into a tote.  To me it doesn’t matter – it’s off the UFO list – so therefore it’s DONE.
  • Emily also has 3 projects done.  You can check out her post @ The Darling Dogwood
  • Deana’s finishes and goals are posted at Dreamworthy Quilts.  She made Bonnie Hunter’s “Grand Illusion” and I LOVE how she finished it!  (The checkerboard blocks were suppose to be the sashing … she used it for a top and bottom border!  Great idea!)

Stash Report

I haven’t been diligent at adding up my fabric used. So, here’s a list to make sure I’ve got it correct.

  • Scrappy Irish Chain – 7
  • Flannel Fat Quarter – 9
  • House Quilt – 2.5
  • Small retreat Bag – 1.25
  • Large retreat bag- 1.5
  • Mice – 0.5
  • Necessary Clutch – 1

Fabric Used year to Date:  23.75  yards
Fabric Added this Week:    0  yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 8.5 yards
Net Fabric used for 2017:    15.25  yards update: my math was out the window with “9” yards … sheesh …

Mice

I finished 2 mouse pincushions.  I started them several years ago with scraps that I had been given by a friend.  One was intended for me and the other for my sister.  I brought them with me to my sisters and finished them.  Yeah!  Another UFO done.  That makes 5 UFOs completed for my PHD in 2018.  One UFO for February!

IMG_1911

My sister is a research scientist – so she picked the one with “atoms”.   She only had 2 glass pins for the eyes – so I’ll add the “eyes” to mine when I get home.  They are more like flying mice as they refuse to stand up … oh well.

Edit: My sister said that she just wiggled the aquarium gravel around to make the mouse stand up. (I put aquarium gravel in a little pouch to give the mouse some weight … I really didn’t want a flying mouse pincushion!)

PHD in 2018

This weekend, I will provide links to all of the bloggers that joined in the PHD in 2018.  I had planned to do this at the beginning of each month, but working on an IPad mini is not easy, so it will have to wait until I get home and work on my computer.

Leaders and Enders

IMG_1913

While I’ve been at my sisters for the past 2 weeks, I have been working on Leaders and Enders and have about 40 4-patches done.  I love making progress on a project without doing a lot of mindless work!

I’m working on another retreat bag.  A large one this time.  I had a honey bun and wanted to quilt as you go.  I finished the quilt as you go and then went and cut the “fabric” too short … groan … sew, I had a wide enough piece cut from the bottom and added it to the side.  (see the top piece)  Hopefully it will turn out!lg-retreat-bagl.jpg

No more fabric anorexia!

That’s correct – my period of fabric anorexia has ended.  Well, I made it almost a month!  A friend of my sister’s took me to a wonderful quilt store on the east side of Edmonton.  Lori’s Country Cottage.  I caved.  I saw this awesome black material in the clearance section … then I found out that if I bought 8 meters, it would be $7.50 / meter.  The black was 3 meters … so I also bought 5 meters of neutrals.  No more fabric anorexia!

PHD #4 DONE!!!

I brought 3 “Retreat Bags” to work on.  This is the small bag.  I did the quilting after taking a “Zen-doodle” class last year … It was fun to do the quilting.  The pattern is free at Emmeline Bags .  You can also purchase the wire frames from her as well.

PHD Update

So far this year, I have completed 4 UFOs.  My goal for the year, for my PHD,  is 28, that means I have 24 left to complete.  There is a total of 56 UFOs left.

Stash Report

I just realized that I did not include the fabric that I used to complete the Flannel Fat Quarter quilt.  There were 2 packages of 8 fat quarters … so that’s 4 yards and 6 yards for the back … so another 10 yards.  Then there’s another yard for my latest finish.

Fabric Used this Week:     1  yards
Fabric Used year to Date:  17.5  yards
Fabric Added this Week:    8  yards

Friday’s Finishes

PHD Update

UFO #3 is completely done!!!   My goal for my PHD in 2018 was to finish 3 UFOs in each of the first 3 months.  I did it for January!!!   This House Wall Hanging is Done, done, done!!!  I doesn’t show in the picture, but I did little clouds in the negative spaces around the roofs.

house finished

Another Finish, but not a UFO.

I made a quilt for my sister sometime around 1984 or so … I didn’t know a lot about quilting.  It was a simple Irish Chain, hand quilted with a rose bud.  I was quite proud of it. Oh my, how things have changed … my quilting has improved quite a bit and I very rarely hand quilt.  And polyester batting is a thing of the past!  The quilt has been used and loved.  So much that the single layer binding has frayed a ton.  (I didn’t know to use a double layer of fabric at the time!)

So, my sister went shopping with a friend prior to having her surgery and picked out a fabric to use for the binding.  The quilt has faded and she picked out a lighter green that is perfect for it.  The first picture below gives you an idea of how much the binding has frayed … the second is a picture of the binding on the quilt. (Yes, I broke all the rules about only hand sewing on a hand quilted quilt and I sewed the binding on by machine.)

Dollar Store Necessities

Today, I left my sister alone with her husband and went shopping.  My sister wants to quilt and has signed up for a class later in the spring. I didn’t bring everything with me, so I went to Dollarama and bought what I figure she needs.  And of course, I will use them while I’m here!  (wink, wink)   Image result for winking smiley face free

Dollarama

  • A flannel back table cloth makes a great design wall.  I usually put it on the bed and design there.  A bonus is that you can fold it up and it will store your layout for you.  If the flannel gets so it doesn’t stick very well, a quick spray with 505 Fabric Spray Adhesive helps make it more sticky.
  • The hair clips can be used to clip units together or hold the binding in place.  I have some that I put numbers on with a sharpie and they can be used to “label” rows or whatever.
  • The spray bottle is to either dilute Best Press (half & half with water) or to use with water.  I use a dry iron, but sometimes a little moisture is what you need to get rid of a crease.  And yes, I did buy her some unscented Best Press – but not at the dollar store, so it’s not in the picture.
  • The shelf liner is to put under her foot pedal to keep it from travelling.  And, I will cut 2 small pieces (~ 2″ x 3″) to put under my hands when I am free motioning.
  • The hair thingies (?pony tail holders?) are great for putting around a bobbin to keep the thread from going everywhere.   I match the bobbin thingy with the thread thingy and then I can tell at a glance which thread goes with which bobbin.

Sewing at my Sister’s

Necessary Clutch

I have gotten a little sewing done. The Necessary Clutch is done except for the button.  I put a magnetic snap on because I wanted to use this fantastic hand-painted button.  Then I realized that it’s near to impossible to sew the button in place because of the snap.  The needle is now stuck in place. Groan.  This is going to have to wait until I get home, get my husband to help and apply some crazy glue.  If anyone has any other suggestions, I’m open to them!

The exterior of the wallet is cork.  It’s the first time I’ve sewn with it.  It sews like a dream – just like everyone says it does!

If you are interested in really neat buttons, visit The Steam Trunk Craftworks,  click on “SHOP”, then “Handmade buttons.”  She also has fabric, kits, trims and all sorts of other stuff!

House Wall Hanging

My husband bought me this kit when we were in Pennsylvania.  I decided it was a perfect project to bring with me.  The houses are almost finished.  After I took this picture, I realized that one roof had one chimney in the wrong place.  My sister said I could leave it as a “design element.”  I decided with only 4 houses, it needed to be fixed.  However, if I was doing a bigger quilt with lots and lots of houses, I would likely have left it and made more “design elements.” Image result for picture smiley face free   thumbnail-e1516570620695.jpg

PHD Update

So far this year, I have completed 2 UFOs.  My goal for the year, for my PHD,  is 28, that means I have 26 left to complete.  There is a total of 58 UFOs left.

The 2 completed UFOs, Scrappy Irish Chain and Fat 1/4 Flannel quilt can be seen by clicking on the name of the quilt.  And yes, as I typed this, I realize that Fat 1/4 Flannel quilt is not a great name for the quilt, but that’s it’s name, for now.  Image result for picture smiley face free

A Little Sewing

PHD in 2018 Update

We have a late-comer to our PHD in 2018 group!  It’s Deana from Dreamworthy Quilts.  This post lists her UFOs with the actual month that she started the quilts.  WOW – I’m impressed!  I think she had said something to me at an earlier date, but I forgot!  Her post from December (HERE) has her list.

PHD in 2018 is now CLOSED.

Project Update

One of the UFOs I brought with me is the Necessary Clutch.  I worked on it a bit while my sister was in the hospital.  She’s home now and doing pretty good.

Anyhow,  it’s a fantastic wallet.  The write up states,The Necessary Clutch Wallet isn’t just your ordinary wallet. Carry your cell phone/mobile, cheques, cash, cards, coins and still have room for your favorite lipstick or even personal items. With its closed ends, everything is safe and secure and there is never any worry about anything sliding out.”   You can access the pattern HERE.

The first picture shows the exterior and flap with the snap in place.  The lining is in the upper left corner.  The 2nd picture shows the credit card slots and the zipper pouch.   Will I get this finished?  Time will tell.

Going to Visit

There’s nothing new on my design wall.

Image result for images free nurse angel I am going to visit my sister for a couple of weeks.  She’s going to be recovering from surgery and I’m going to be her nurse and help.  Mmmm … not sure what kind of help I’ll be – but I can be bossy and get her moving and on the road to recovery!

img_1339.jpgI’m taking a few small projects with me.  I hope to complete at least 7 UFOs while I’m gone.  This is half of my suitcase (the other half is for clothes)

The UFO’s I have packed are:

  • 3 retreat bags
  • necessary clutch
  • mouse pin cushion (2)
  • a mystery table runner
  • donation baby quilt (x2)  I hope to get the tops done, not the whole quilt – but you never know!

Ha!  Wish me luck with all that!   My sister has a Janome 8900, so it should be easy to sew/quilt on since I have the same machine.

Fabric Anorexia?

Stash Report

I HAD to go to a store and buy binding.  Yes, binding.  I found the perfect binding.  And while I was in the store, I looked and looked and looked around.  The lady cutting fabric was busy with a lady having tons cut … so, I looked around some more and there was absolutely NOTHING that said, “Buy me!” or “take me home”  except for the 1/2 yard of binding fabric.   I’m afraid that I might be getting sick.  Seriously.  Is there something called fabric anorexia?

Binding

Quilting is finished and binding is happening on this quilt:

Another OH NO!!!

As I was searching through my stash looking for something I know I have.  I found another UFO.  Probably from 2008 or 2009.  It was started at a murder mystery retreat.  The quilt was a mystery and there was a murder mystery at the same time.  It was sort of fun.  One of the owners of the quilt shop / retreat centre was “killed” with a wavy rotary cutter.  The evidence was clear:  The “murder”  weapon was near the “victim” with the red rick-rack circling his neck and a piece of red fabric (indicating blood) by his head.  We were given clues throughout the weekend.  Unfortunately, at the end, the rational for “who” the murderer was included a lot of clues that we were not given.  So that part was frustrating!  And the quilt … yes, the quilt!  I finished the top with grandiose ideas to piece the back … and so it has sat and sat and sat … languishing … ignored and totally forgotten – until today! That brings my total UFOs at the start of 2018 up to 60.  I’m still going to stick with finishing 28 for my PHD.

PHD in 2018  //  UFO tally

With my latest UFO find – the number of UFOs left to complete has increased by 1.  I certainly hope I do not find any more UFOs.  If I do … I might just pretend that I didn’t find them.

PHD #2 is being quilted.

PHD in 2018 Update

Emily from “the Darling Dogwood” has her list ready to go.  She has changed one of the criteria to fit her life … she will finish all projects that are started by the end of September.  This gives her freedom to work on the leader ender charity quilts that she does towards the end of the year.

SEW – in total there are 7 of us working on our Quilting PHDs.  As we go through each month, I will post updates on the projects everyone is working on.  I’m hoping that each of us will complete our PHDs and not feel so guilty about having a ton of UFOs languishing around.

PHD #2: In Progress

Remember the containers of UFOs on top of the filing cabinet?  IMG_1223The ones that didn’t really interest me?

Well this is the flannel quilt – made from fat 1/4s that I bought years ago in Oregon.  I’m trying to do a bobbin’s worth of quilting each day and this quilt is getting done.  The flannel is heavy and I’m having to adjust the quilt frequently, but I’m enjoying the quick quilting pattern that I’m using … swirls and flower echoes … easy and fast!

PHD in 2018

Oh me, oh my … Ann @ Laughing Gas Quilts has finished her first UFO of the year!!!  Check it out HERE.  At this rate, she may achieve her PHD by the end of the month, or maybe February!  unknown-jpg

Susan – is joining via Instagram … I will post details when I have them.

Two of my friends want to join in PHD in 2018.  Marie has an Instagram account and I’m just waiting for her to approve me.  Diane says she does Pinterest enough and is going to follow along at home.  Ha!  I know they just want that (now) coveted certificate of PHD in 2018!

First Finish of 2018

Here it is: my scrappy Irish Chain.  As I mentioned before, most of the 2″ squares in this quilt came from other quilters.  People that lovingly don’t want to deal with their own scraps, so they handed them to me.  But, NO MORE!!!  As fun as it was to sew with other people’s fabric – this did nothing to decrease my own pile of scraps.  At any rate, I’m quite happy with how this quilt turned out! It’s 68x 82″.

IMG_1279

Stash Report

Since most of the scraps from the above quilt came from others (and not added into my “Fabric Added” calculations),  I estimate that approx. 7 yards of my fabric was used (backing, white background & binding).

Fabric Used this Week:     7  yards

I found 3 more …  Yes 3!!!   That brings my total UFOs to 59!   #   SEW – Since I originally said that in order to get your PHD you had to finish at least half of your UFOs or a maximum of 28, I will stick to completing 28 UFOs and finish all new projects that I start in 2018.  I’m finding that 28 is stressful enough, 30 would be over the top for me!

PHD in 2018

We have another blogger joining us in this challenge.  She’s a fellow Canadian from the east coast.  Her blog is “Laughing Gas Quilts.”  Can you guess what she does for a job? In her comment, she said, “What goal directed, box ticking, overachiever can resist the lure of a certificate of achievement?”  LOVE it!

Are you interested in getting your PHD in 2018?  You can see the details HERE.  You have until January 10 to join and send me your list via instagram, Pinterest or Blog.

Progress Report

Scrappy Irish Chain:  quilting is happening  … there are 49 blocks to put feather wreaths in and 50 blocks that need outlining.  Oh me … I like doing the feather wreaths, but outlining the blocks is boring, boring, boring …  Sew, I’ve set myself a goal of doing 7 feather wreaths a day and an hour of outlining.  Hopefully in 2 or 3 days, I’ll have the quilting done.

On Ringo Lake:  I’m starting to work on Clue 8 – the blocks …  This picture contains all of the pieces I need for the main blocks.

I think I’m going to like this quilt!

Within hours of the “reveal” some people were posting pictures of their completed tops.  I have no idea how they did it!  There are several steps in the final clue and I know that it will take me a lot longer than a few hours to have this quilt to a flimsy stage!

I’m looking forward to a fun year in 2018 as I, and others, work on completing their PHDs!

Preparation

Sandwiching

In the last few days, I managed to get 2 quilts sandwiched.  As you see below,  my daughter’s dog “Fergie” decided that she wanted to help sandwich it.

This quilt was made from 2 packages of flannel fat quarters that I bought a LONG time ago at Craft Warehouse (?) near Portland, Oregon.  I always planned to make a rag quilt with the fabric, but wasn’t impressed with the work it would take to cut the “rags”.  Even with the Accuquilt – each block would have had to be done separately because of the heaviness of the flannel,  Sew – the plan changed and this became a disappearing 4 patch.  The backing is also flannel.  I can’t wait until it’s finished! It should be nice and cozy.

Quilting

This quilt is under the machine right now. It is primarily made with scraps from other people.  It did nothing to reduce MY own scrap pile.  In making this quilt, I realize that I don’t WANT any more scraps!  But I must admit, it’s fun to sew with other peoples fabrics! unknown-jpg   It will take a bit of time to get this one quilted. I’m doing small feather wreaths in the white blocks and outlining the coloured blocks. Slow going!

Piecing

The other day, I was almost caught up with “On Ringo Lake” and thought I had a week to finish Clue 6.  But, to my surprise and likely everyone else’s – Clue 7 came out yesterday and Clue 8 came out today … Needless to say – I am not caught up! And, I suspect the final reveal will come out tomorrow.  The picture on the left is the remaining Clue 6 to sew together.  At the top of the picture is a few Clue 7.  The picture on the right is the Clue 8 – the block … And I just noticed that the middle bottom block is upside down!  Good thing it’s not sewn together yet!  Image result for smiley face

Well, I’ve got a lot of sewing to do and absolutely nothing will be finished before the New Year rings in.

Getting ready to Quilt

IMG_1257I’ve been working on Bonnie Hunter’s “On Ringo Lake” and am almost caught up on the clues.  This is a picture of the start of Clue 5.  It is done.

PHD in 2018

PHD in 2018I’m going to work on my quilting PHD in 2018.  Look HERE for details.  You can join me if you want to!

IMG_1223I was looking at the projects on top of the filing cabinet and analyzed why I’m not thrilled about them.  See the container on the top left, that says “Paper Piecing + 2 baby quilts?”  Well, the purple that you see in the corner is the border of the quilt that was paper pieced. (Which I did without sewing on the paper!)  It needed to have the back pieced.  There wasn’t quiet enough to cover the whole back … but I knew that I had enough fabric from the front of the quilt that it could easily be pieced together.

IMG_1261Sew … since I want to tackle projects that are on top of the filing cabinet first, I pulled that container down.  I had to laugh at the label that I made ahead of time and put in the box.  I don’t mind the label stating it’s one year earlier, but not 2.  In my last trunk show, I told the audience that my labels have the date that the label was made, not necessarily when the quilt was finished.

But, this quilt now has a destination – so I decided that I would put the label right on the back of the quilt.  Image result for stress clip art freeI actually pieced the backing and then did the label.  That was nerve-wracking!
In retrospect – I should have embroidered first, then pieced the back.

But the back is pieced, and the label is done.  Just need to sandwich it and quilt it.   Now, I don’t feel reluctant to work on this project.
