With travelling, working at Quilt Canada and my job, it’s been a bit of a struggle to get back into sewing / quilting.

Rock Quilts
While driving around, we found a few quilts that were painted on rocks. I found them fascinating. We talked with the lady that painted the one on the left. She told us that she re-paints the rock every spring. Quite a feat for a wheel-chair bound lady!
Chasing Icebergs
Yes, I was. My husband and I flew to Newfoundland for a family visit and we drove around looking for puffins and icebergs.
The puffins had apparently returned, but when we visited their nesting grounds, they were out to sea feeding.

I made this quilt for my niece when she was born!!!! I honestly do not remember making it … but I must have because I embroidered my name and the year on the quilt back. I also remembered some of the fabrics. This quilt has been well loved, but also well taken care of! It was fun to see it!

Oh no!! Not MORE UFOs?
More UFOs?
That’s right … I was searching for some fabric that I knew I had somewhere … and I opened this container and discovered more UFOs. There was a bunch of rectangles that I know were intended for zipper bags and some squares from a panel that were suppose to be pillow covers, but I had made handles and I think I was thinking of making a little bag. Jaxson & Skittles
Linda is a quilting buddy. Her neighbour’s kids have doxies – Jaxson & Skittles. The neighbour often dog-sits the cute fur-babies. Sew, when Linda. saw the “Dogs in Sweaters” pattern by Elizabeth Hartman, she knew she had to make one of Jaxson and one of Skittles. However, she wanted to make them as true to the colouring of the dogs … so she managed to get pictures of each of the dogs.
Then she made the pillows: SEW cute!!!
Didn’t she do a fantastic job with the colouring? I think Linda is one talented lady! Continue reading
May 14 Stash & Design
This top is almost ready to sandwich. It’s a pretty simple pattern, and one I have made a few times. It’s a great pattern when you want to show-case a fabric.
But, I do not have anything quilting related finished.
However, I do have my garden planted and I noticed that some of the radishes are up, and a few pea plants are poking their head through the dirt! We’ve had a couple of harvests of rhubarb … yes, spring is here! Continue reading
Happy Mother’s Day
I had this picture picked out for today ….
Friday … I’m starting new projects!
That’s correct … I’m not starting just one new project … but 3!!!!
Mystery quilts are a great, great temptation to me … and there are 2 that have left me wondering “should I or shouldn’t I?” Well, the answer is I shouldn’t but I’m going to!
#1 Square Dance

From My Carolina Home is offering “Square Dance.” This is the one that is already started with the clues named after the calls or moves in square dancing. Fun!
SEW: I have started sewing the first few clues, you can see the 9 patches here. I’m making this with Kansas Troubles … a favourite fabric line! And all from my stash. This is going to be a small quilt … a table topper. It should be doable and easily finished by the end of the year. (If I want to get my PHD in 2018 – it has to be finished!) Continue reading
Orca Bay #2
Here it is:
Did I, or Didn’t I?
Quilting Labyrinth #2

I have started quilting Labyrinth #2. I’m starting by stitching in the ditch around all the major sections. Then I’ll free-motion the rest.
The quilting will be very similar to what I did in this Labyrinth #1.
Retreat Photos
The easiest way to show all the pictures is in the following slide show. As you will see, I was with a group of very talented quilters. Everyone was working on different projects. What a diverse variety!
PHD in 2018 April Report
I’m home from the retreat! What a great time I had with some very amazing quilting friends!
I did manage to get this quilt totally quilted and bound. It’s big, it’s heavy and I won’t be taking a pic of the full quilt until it’s washed and hanging on the line. I spent most of the whole retreat quilting this. The backing turned out to be a brushed cotton / flannel and it was a challenge to manipulate it through the machine.

I’ve had several inquiries about the pattern for this quilt:

You can find the pattern HERE. Please beware that the fabric requirements have an error in them. Where it says 4 strips 2” x 42” for binding This is actually for the border. You need the same amount for the border.

This is a picture of some of the quilts done by the group. I know that there were at least 2 more that were finished but didn’t show up for the guild “Show & Tell.”
This picture was taken by our wonderful guild photographer, Irene Hamilton. I blotted out the faces because I did not have permission to post pictures of the individuals.

Retreat!
I’m leaving this morning for a retreat! Here is an early morning picture taken last year from one of the bedrooms at “Over the Rainbow Lodge” on Camano Island.
I’m going to be sewing with friends from British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California. A true west-coast group of ladies.
Sew … I’m planning on working on lots of my UFO projects …
- Orca Bay – quilting
- Labyrinth #2 – quilting
- Smith Mountain Morning – piecing
- Fractured Paint Brush – piecing
I may take one new project to work on … Dr. Suess quilt, a bag, or something using some fat quarters or a layer cake or ??? (hmm that’s more than one) … but I wouldn’t want to run out of projects, would I? And, I am going for a week!

Scrappy Workshop
Yesterday, I taught a guild workshop “Scrappy Irish Chain.” Based on this quilt:
Carpenter’s Wheel
A friend saw a quilt that I had made in 2007 on my Facebook page. She asked if I had the pattern. I couldn’t find the pattern any where. I looked through all my files – both paper and on the computer.
I have made at least 5 quilts using this pattern. This was when I was first getting back into quilting. It is easy to pick 3 co-ordinating fabrics, the blocks are big and go together easily. Continue reading
2018 New Quilter’s Blog Hop
This is my 2nd year participating in the “New Quilter’s Blog Hop.” I’ve learned LOTS about blogging, making changes and adding things.
There are 32 participants in the Blog Hop and we are divided into 4 different weeks for presenting out blogs. Each person in the group suggested names and logos for the group. The name “In Stitches” was chosen and the logo is

April Finish #2
Another April Finish

Yeah! I quilted this quilt with a simple “loop-d-loop” and had most of the binding done before I taught “Sewing binding on by Machine” at a guild function. You can see my tutorial HERE. Many were surprised with my “don’t iron the binding in half” and clipping the corners. One gal who finished quilting her quilt, added the binding to her quilt – without ironing it in half: she was a happy camper or should I say a happy “quilter.” I then had to giggle when she apologized for wanting to sew the binding on by hand … that’s perfectly OK!
This quilt is a free pattern from Quiltville.com. Scroll down to “Scrappy Bargello.” I made this with 2 ½” strips. Continue reading
