Yup, I am.  In my last post (HERE),  I said that I had 2 finishes.  That is still correct.  But, I attributed both finishes to my UFO list.  That is incorrect.  One (Square Dance) was started this year and the other (Kangaroo) was a UFO.  Now to achieve my PHD in 2018, I did need to finish Square Dance, but Kangaroo was an option out of all my UFOs.  All of this to say, I have 9 UFO’s to finish for my PHD in 2018.  SEW … hopefully the muddy water’s are clear again!   Image result for smiley face clip art free

  1. Fireburst: this a mystery from “Tish’s Adventures in Wonderland.”  I thought I was done the step for this month (the flying geese), but when I went to her blog to get the URL, I realized that it said “Flying Geese and Square in a Square.”  Guess I’ll have to make the square in a square – right?

2 July finishes!!

That’s correct!  I’ve got 2 finishes!  That leaves me with 8 UFOs and 2 new projects to finish before the end of the year for PHD in 2018!

This Kangaroo quilt is done, done, done.  The label is on and it’s ready to be gifted!  There is pinky minky on the back.  Last week I talked about how easy it was to quilt.  And, I mentioned that I did not like the mess it made when it was trimmed.  When I was putting the binding on, I also found another dislike: it’s HOT!!!  It’ll be nice and cuddly in the winter.  If it wasn’t going to be gifted soon, then I would have put it aside until it was cooler!

Edit:  This quilt was a panel, contrary to some beliefs, I did NOT appliqué it.  Just added the borders onto the panel!

Playing with Embroidery

I have an embroidery machine.  It’s OLD and the hoops are small.  At work, I was told that I needed to learn to use the embroidery machine.  A big one.  It’s nice.  But I don’t have it at home.  I can work my way around it and have designed several things, using the designs that are build in.

But I wanted to try appliqué in the hoop, on my machine.  There is a real cute pattern at Sweet Pea, an Australian company.  It’s a free pattern. “Learn in the Hoop.”

10 Reasons my UFOs languish …

First … no finishes, but almost!  This is the quilt I talk about below … the one with minky on the back.  At first, I wasn’t going to use batting, but later decided to put some in.  I’m glad I did … it made the animals a bit puffy.  Which is nice!

A friend of mine, Donna, told me to make sure it was well adhered.  Sew, I did. And I pinned it in about a dozen places.  It was easy to quilt: moved easily around and I liked the affect on the back!  The only thing I did not like was the MESS when I trimmed the minky, I wish I had taken it outside to do.

Sandwiching marathon

Yup, another marathon.  This time it’s a lot of small ones and I was able to do them myself without help.  I do have one more that is waiting for assistance.  SEW – that will mean that I will have 6 quilts to quilt.  Only one of them (Square Dance: centre-top row) was started this year, the rest are UFOs.  This will help toward my PHD in 2018.  I’m not going to do the math because I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch!

A Friday Flimsy!

The flimsy from the Square Dance Mystery is done.  It’s 24″ square.  I’m debating whether or not to put a border on it.  The directions for assembling this quilt are well written.  And see that centre star?  She has a unique technique for making those long half triangle squares.  It was easy! No messing with weird shapes.  If you want to make this little topper or a bigger quilt, the steps are still available at “From My Carolina Home.”

Rock Quilts

While driving around, we found a few quilts that were painted on rocks.  I found them fascinating.   We talked with the lady that painted the one on the left.  She told us that she re-paints the rock every spring.  Quite a feat for a wheel-chair bound lady!

I made this quilt for my niece when she was born!!!! I honestly do not remember making it … but I must have because I embroidered my name and the year on the quilt back.  I also remembered some of the fabrics.  This quilt has been well loved, but also well taken care of!  It was fun to see it!

Oh no!! Not MORE UFOs?

That’s right … I was searching for some fabric that I knew I had somewhere … and I opened this container and discovered more UFOs.   There was a bunch of rectangles that I know were intended for zipper bags and some squares from a panel that were suppose to be pillow covers, but I had made handles and I think I was thinking of making a little bag. Jaxson & Skittles

Linda is a quilting buddy.  Her neighbour’s kids have doxies – Jaxson & Skittles.  The neighbour often dog-sits the cute fur-babies.    Sew, when Linda. saw the “Dogs in Sweaters” pattern by Elizabeth Hartman, she knew she had to make one of Jaxson and one of Skittles.  However, she wanted to make them as true to the colouring of the dogs … so she managed to get pictures of each of the dogs.

Then she made the pillows: SEW cute!!!

May 14 Stash & Design

IMG_1728This top is almost ready to sandwich.  It’s a pretty simple pattern, and one I have made a few times.  It’s a great pattern when you want to show-case a fabric.

But, I do not have anything quilting related finished.

However, I do have my garden planted and I noticed that some of the radishes are up, and a few pea plants are poking their head through the dirt!   We’ve had a couple of harvests of rhubarb … yes, spring is here! Continue reading →
