Today is the day that I tell you to add pinwheels. If you take a close look, you will see that I changed my log cabin layout from last week. (See HERE). I put 4 of them together to make a diamond … It helped to make the quilt longer and not square. I really like the look!
For the Pinwheels, I used the Accuquilt die # 4 of the 8″ Cube set. I wanted the half-square triangles to be bigger than the ones in the stars. It worked! Since I was working with awesome Island Batik Fabric, I didn’t have to worry a lot about bias!
I will be adding 6″ white borders onto the top and bottom and 3″ white borders onto the sides.
Again, I continued to use a variety of fabrics from Island Batik’s Ohana collection. I hope I have enough scraps to bind it! It’s getting close!
Make sure to visit all of the other co-leaders. Here’s their links:
Here is a Linky Party to link your flimsy. MARK you calendars for March 29th !!! I will have a linky party for everyone to show their final quilts or tops!
Today is the day that Susan told us to add Log Cabin blocks. Again, I’m rebelling! I am not going to do the blocks all around the quilt. Just in the middle of the next round. This quilt is getting bigger than I had planned and this will keep the size down. The logs started out at 1.5″ wide strips and finished at 1″ wide. As you can see, I paired the colours with the white fabric.
Again, I continued to use a variety of fabrics from Island Batik’s Ohana collection.
Next week will be our final round!!! I’m loving the variety of quilts that are being made!!! Aren’t they wonderful? MARK you calendars for March 29th !!! I will have a linky party for everyone to show their final quilts or tops!
Make sure to visit all of the other co-leaders and link up to Susan’s linky party to show us your blocks! HERE
Island Batik’s blog hop “Create for a Cause” is over. I hope you enjoyed it!!! If you want a lot of wonderful eye candy – you can go HERE to see all of the quilts in one place!
As well, one of our ambassadors has put together a wonderful video that shows all of the beautiful quilts. You can view it HERE.
AND … just in case you forgot – I had a giveaway on my blog when I posted my “Create for a Cause” quilt (see HERE.) And the winner is …. drum roll … Donna H. She has sent me her address and I hope to get it in the mail soon!!!

I’ve started the Echo Lake t-shirt quilt that has been on my UFO list for … well, um … ah … yes … well … It’s about time I started on it!!!!
There’s a huge pile of t-shirts. I’ve cut some and I’ve learned 2 things.
Use a pressing cloth when ironing the interfacing on. Fortunately, I realized that the interfacing would stick to my iron if I didn’t use a pressing cloth!!!
It’s best to iron on the interfacing right after the shirt is cut. When I didn’t, the edges started to curl in. I’m cutting the shirts much larger than the logos so that when I lay it out, I can trim them down.

I’m working on my March Island Batik project. Sorry, no pictures yet!
Stash Report
I finished the guild’s Jan / Feb mystery quilt. I used Island Batik fabrics for the top, but I did back it with flannel from my stash. So that fabric will be included as “used this week.”
Fabric Added this year: 9 yards (my husbands amounts as well)
Net Fabric used – 2.5 yards
Husband’s purchases: 0 yards (which are added into my total amount of Fabric added this year). For those of you who don’t know … my husband often buys more fabric than I do … so, I’m keeping track! Unfortunately, he doesn’t sew!
Stitchin’ Time

Today is the day that Wendy told us to add wonky stars. I’m a rebel … and I did friendship stars instead! I used the Accuquilt to cut the half-square triangles. Do I ever enjoy using it for those!
However, I didn’t do the math very well and I have extra stars left over. I wanted to leave the cornerstone as a plain white block, so … who knows what will happen with those extra stars?
Again, I continued to use a variety of fabrics from Island Batik’s Ohana collection.

I took a Silly Moon Ruler Quilting class on Saturday by Zoom. It was fun and I learned some things. Believe it or not – the fabric is dark blue and the thread is light grey . Obviously, my phone did not pick up the true colours!

Today is the day that Emily @ The Darling Dogwood told us to add Plus signs our 2nd round.
Here it is … My plus signs are 3″ x 3″ once the next border is added. And leaving the corner square as a plain white block might be my theme throughout this round robin!
Again, I continued to use a variety of fabrics from Island Batik’s Ohana collection.
Make sure to visit all of the other co-leaders and link up to Emily’s linky partyto show us your piano key and plus borders!!
Last week I said that the Winnie the Pooh quilt needed some more quilting, specifically Winnie, Eeyore and the moon. A loving friend told me that if I left it, they would pop. So, I’m going with her advice and am considering this a UFO finish! That made for a super quick finish!!! This will be another donation quilt for the guild. It was a fun quilt to quilt. There is Hobbs 80/20 batting in it. It was quilted with CanSew beige thread.
Another Holiday Seclusion Quilt
Somehow, I missed putting Valda’s quilt on my blog last week. It’s a beauty!!! You can see all the other ones from my guild HERE.

OK … the Winnie the Pooh quilt was a quick finish this week. All it took was a decision! (grin)
I KNOW that not all my UFOs will be finished this quickly. But it is nice to have 3 considered done!
If you missed the previous posts about this year’s SAHRR – you can see it HERE and HERE.
Today is the day that Chris @ Chrisknitssews told us to add piano keys for our first round.
Here’s my Centre Block with the first round added. As you can see, I didn’t add them in the corners. With the skinny border added, it made my block 11″ x 11″ … my piano keys were cut at 2.5″ x 1.5″ and will end up as 2″ x 1″ when the next round is added. I continued to use a variety of fabrics from Island Batik’s Ohana collection.
Make sure to visit all of the other co-leaders and link up to Chris’s linky party to show us your blocks!
The perfect day to stay inside and quilt … or write blog posts!
I have another UFO finish!
This is my Holiday Seclusion Mystery … scrappy Island Batik fabrics (from Stashbuilder bundles) and Island Batik solid grey. Graffiti or Wild quilting was done … lots of different motifs, swirls, feathers, flowers, vines, McTavishing, pebbles … It was SEW fun to quilt! Hobbs fusible batting was used. I LOVE it! No shifting at all. This will be a comfort quilt, so I backed it with a grey flannel … so cosy!
Yes … I made this bigger … However, I started planning the design with 9″ blocks and quickly realized that most people would not want to make a quilt with smallish pieces in such a short time frame. I then switched the pattern to a 12″ block for the mystery. But of course, I didn’t want the work I had done to go to waste, so I just continued piecing the smaller blocks. Same pattern, different size!
For Instructions on the Holiday Seclusion Mystery, see the Holiday Seclusion Mystery tab at the top of my blog HERE.
If you missed the previous post about this year’s SAHRR – you can see it HERE.
Today is the day were each of us shows you our centre blocks … Make sure you visit each of the co-leaders and see what their centre block is! And, it’ll be easier if you follow each of them! Here’s their links:
Here’s my Centre block: It’s called an Interwoven Star … The fabrics are Island Batik fabrics from the Ohana collection. It measures 9″ x 9″ and for it to fit with the next round, I’ll be adding a skinny white border around it.
I’ve been working on a few things … A few Zoom quilting days keep me focused! And steadily sewing away!

A Winnie the Pooh panel is in the process of being quilted. I thought I was done with the quilting – but there’s a few areas that need something.
Holiday Seclusion #1 Mystery was finished this week:
Every Sunday or Monday, I give a recap of what’s on my Design Wall, a Stash Report, Stitchin’ Time, a “To Do” list and my PHD … SEW … here’s what’s happening in the studio and a summary of 2020.
Design Wall
Piecing:
First off, one person asked me how I was doing with Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery Quilt. The answer is simple. I’m not doing it this year. I felt that I had too much on my plate. I think this is the first time in 17 years that I’ve not done the mystery. In some ways I feel guilty for not doing it, but I also feel a great relief that I don’t have to sew like crazy to try to keep up! And, it’s also one quilt that isn’t on my 2021 UFO list!
I’m adding borders to the scrappy Holiday Seclusion Mystery. Borders are also being added to the guild mystery quilt. Sorry, no pictures. It’s a surprise for the guild mystery quilters.
I thought I’d let you know what plans I have for the next little while …
Holiday Seclusion Mystery
Holiday Seclusion Mystery will start on December 26 and end on December 31. It’s a fun and simple mystery. This mystery is not related to the holidays – except for when it’s occurring. However, if you use holiday themed fabric, then it will relate to the holidays.
I’m busy sewing up the mystery and 2 tester s are also sewing up a storm.

Island Batik Projects of 2020
There will be a post of all the projects I’ve made with Island Batik fabrics in 2020.
The Best of 2020 Linky Party
This is a fantastic linky party!!! Everyone post links to their 5 BEST posts in 2020. How they choose the posts is an individual choice! It starts after Christmas Day.
My Stitching Resolution Blog Hop December 30th
Carla, from Creatin’in the Sticks is hosting a ONE day blog hop. And the challenge is about our stitching plan for 2021. Carla says “Let’s share new ideas and inspiration. All you have to do is finish this statement in a blog post:
My stitching resolution for 2021 is _____________________________.“
It will be fun to see what everyone comes up with.
PHD in 2021
This will be the 4th year that this program has been running. I started it to decrease the number of UFOs that I have. In 2018, I had over 60 UFOs and I keep finding more, tucked away in containers with other stuff. I will be starting 2021 with 17 UFOs … will I get them all completed? I hope so, but who knows. My goal is to finish at least 12!
When I started the PHD in 2018, I realized that I have a passion for starting new projects and not finishing them. Well, the passion is for starting projects and passion for finishing them just didn’t exist. That’s how the number of UFOs grew. SEW … for me, one important aspect of the PHD in 20?? is to complete the new projects that are started. It’s working!
Stay at Home Round Robin with 6 Blogging Friends
The Stay at Home Round Robin that I hosted in the spring was a LOT of fun! This time, 6 blogging friends and I are hosting it together. It will start on January 11. Each week, one of us will post which border our Round Robin is suppose to have and there will be pictures! We’ll be giving you more information soon.
Carol, from “Just Let Me Quilt” is having “Heart’s on Fire” blog hop. She states that the challenge for this hop is “Make something with a heart in any color, BUT NOT RED…get creative!” SEW … I need to make something with a non-red heart … what will it be??
SEW … I don’t have a finish for this Friday … but I will show you some close-ups of the quilt I showed on Monday. (For details see HERE).
And closeups … so you don’t have to zoom in to see the details.
Straight line, ruler quilting in the border, flange binding and random swirls in the background.
Straight line, ruler quilting in the dark blue and floral blue prints, with a vine scroll in the middle.
More of the straight line quilting, ore of the random swirls …
Picnic in the Park
Earlier this week, some of the guild members met in a park for lunch … everyone practiced social distancing and there was show and tell. I hadn’t met Brenda before, but I was thrilled to meet her! She had just finished her top from the “Stay at Home Round Robin” that I hosted in the spring. (See Here for the finish and Here for the start.)
Doesn’t Brenda’s top look fantastic in black & white with a pop of red? She wants to make it bigger … so ideas were flying around. Koodos to Brenda for knowing “it’s not a race” and for sticking with it! I can’t wait to see the finish!
What’s Happening Soon?
Next week, I’ll be hosting TGIFF. So make sure you come back and see the marvelous quilts and projects that others are working on!
A Couple of Blog Hops
First up is the Island Batik Block Hop “It’s in the Bag.” I’m super excited about this one! “It’s in the Bag” will be featuring all sorts of byAnnie bags! It promises to be absolutely fantastic!!! Make sure that you follow along and take advantage of opportunities to WIN some wonderful Island Batik fabrics!!!
Second will be the “Hello Fall” Blog Hop that starts later in September. This one is hosted by Carla from “Creatin’ in the Sticks.” Hmmm … perhaps, I need to work on this one and get it finished? The answer to that question is a definite YES!!!
My 2 Round Robin quilts are all finished! Quilted and binding done!
The Purple
Here is the purple one that was done as a quilt-as-you-go. Eagle eyes will notice the pins in the binding at the top … that’s because this quilt is waiting for a special little one to be born and that’s where the label will go.
The Blue
And the blue one … I quilted and quilted and quilted and I LOVE it! I even did some ruler quilting!
The Quilting
And, close-ups of the quilting:
I know that the centre square (below) turned out wonky … but that’s just the way it is and it’s staying that way. Perhaps the next time I do it, it will be more non-wonky!
Disclaimer: Thanks to Island Batik for the fabrics for the tops of the 2 Round Robins, Hobbs batting, Schmetz Needles, Aurifil thread and AccuQuilt for providing the necessary tools and supplies to make the quilts!
Linky Party
This will be the last Linky party for the Stay-at-Home Round Robins … Post a picture of your completed or in-progress Round Robin!
I have no finishes this week … except for this one mask. My daughter asked me to make it for a coworker of hers … his nick-name is Plant Dad … so, via messenger, we picked out the fabric and she asked that Plant Dad be stitched in their company’s pink colour. Apparently he said, “I really love this.”

Masks: lots in progress. I started serging the ties – much easier!!! And a friend gave me some florist wire – much nicer for the nose & should hold up better than pipe cleaners!

Quilting:
The blue round robin is ready to quilt … machine set up, bobbins wound …

Here is the blue Round Robin with the stars added. I used the AccuQuilt 8″ Qube dies #2 and #5 to cut them out. It took me less than an hour … and that was with bits and pieces and scraps of the fabrics. Hopefully in the coming week(s?), I will get this sandwhiched and the binding on.
Here is the purple round robin. I had a limited amount of space left for the stars, so I had to make them smaller (4.5″ square). I wasn’t able to use the Accuquilt for them (only because I don’t have the appropriate size dies). It took me over 3 hours to cut these out. What a difference from using the Accuquilt! I was already “sold” on using the Accuquilt for curved pieces and the Block on Board, but this really illustrated to me how time saving it is for regular squares and triangles!
On the purple quilt, I just quilted Stitch in the Ditch along the seams of the stars. I contemplated outlining the stars, but since I wanted to only use the walking foot to quilt this quilt, I didn’t want to be turning the quilt a zillion times. It would have been a breeze if I did free motion, but I was determined to just use the walking foot!
I didn’t have time to bind the purple quilt. Hopefully, that will happen this week and I can show you the final quilt(s) next week!
Fun Facts about the quilts:
All fabrics were given to me by Island Batik. As an ambassador, I was also given Aurifil thread, Hobbs batting, the AccuQuilt dies and Schmetz needles from each of the industry sponsers. Thank you!
For both quilts, I used Aurifil thread for piecing.
For the purple quilt: I used #2515 for quilting and, I used Hobbs batting 80/20 (scraps joined together).
The Accuquilt Cube 8″ dies were used, when appropriate.
Blue is approximately 48″ square. Purple is approximately 42″ square.
Part 7
Is actually quilting and binding your quilt. We don’t want to have any more UFOs – right? If you did a quilt-as-you-go (like the purple one), it should be a matter of trimming the quilt and applying the binding.
Linky Party:
Here is a Linky Party for you to show off your work! You have a few options for posting … you can post a link to your blog, a link to your Instagram or a link to a Pinterest page.
Frolic is finished! Borders on, label on, quilted and binding! Done Done DONE!!! It usually takes me 4-5 days to quilt a full sized Bonnie Hunter quilt, but with my new machine (Janome M7), the quilting was done in less than 2 days! Those extra stiches / minute really do make a HUGE difference!!!
I’m loving how using mostly whites for the neutrals, along with the colours make for a nice cheery summer quilt! This will be on a bed as soon as it’s washed!
The batting is Hobbs 80/20. For quilting, I did a large swirl, with echoed flower petals around it. I was amazed at how this pattern caught all of the 1″ squares quite nicely! A light grey CanSew thread was used for the quilting.

Round Robin: add the last borders: maybe finish the purple one since it’s a quilt-as-you-go.
Masks: being made as leaders & enders … pull out the serger and serge the ties.
The squares on the blue Round Robin quilt are square in a square. They finish at 4½” unfinished. I used dies #5 & #6 from the 8″ Go Cube. They were super quick to cut and then sew! I’m loving the variety of Island Batik blues in this quilt!
Here is a close-up of the square-in-a-square blocks.
The purple squares are 2½” squares that go every which way. They were a lot of fun to make! I randomly added white to each side of the square, then I place a 4½” ruler over the square and cut. I didn’t worry about the orientation of the square!
Linky Party:
Here is a Linky Party for you to show off your work! You have a few options for posting … you can post a link to your blog, a link to your Instagram or a link to a Pinterest page.
Even if you’re not participating in the Stay at Home Round Robin – go visit the linking blogs to see what they are doing. Do you see the one that put it on point? That’s part of the freedom of a Round Robin – I LOVE it!
This is the final round! It will be stars! You can make them however you want! I haven’t started them yet, but maybe, just maybe, I’ll have the purple quilt done. Most of the quilting is already done, so it might be a quick finish … or it might not get done … time will tell!
A Friday Finish
I showed this quilt on Wednesday’s post. You can read about it HERE.
Stay at Home Round Robin: Arrows … were added this week. I’m loving the Island Batik fabrics!
Guild Challenge: This week’s challenge is to finish a UFO …. hmmm … which one will I choose?
Masks:
My daughter has a beagle, my son has a motor cycle and loves cats and his girlfriend loves cats …
I have very little elastic, but I have some OLD bias tape that I know I’ll never use … a quick stitch down the length, cut to 16″ and I had lots of ties! The yellow bias tape came from a store in Vanderhoof in the 70’s or 80’s. Not sure where the iron on seam binding came from!
There are literally a zillion mask patterns out there – with more being published as I speak! If you must know, I used the pattern from Leah Day … HERE. For the filter, I gave each of the kids a roll of blue shop paper towels. Cut each paper towel into four 5″ squares and you have lots of filters!
PLEASE NOTE: These masks will NOT prevent you from getting the virus – it will help to prevent you from spreading it!
Quilting:
I quilted 3, yes 3 quilts this week!!! 2 Elvira quilts and a heart quilt! The heart quilt was quilted with hearts!
On one Elvira quilt, I did a large swirl followed by flower petals that I echoed.
The other Elvira quilt was lines up and down the quilt with “leaves” here and there …
